RBU PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria 2015 :

  • Candidates having Master’s degree with 55% marks {(50 % for SC,ST& PWD (PH)}or its equivalent grade from any UGC recognized University in India or an equivalent degree of a recognized foreign University are eligible to apply for admission to the Ph.D Programme of study in his /her disciplinary subject of study or in a subject of allied discipline or in an inter disciplinary subject.

RBU PhD Admission Procedure 2015 :

  • The candidates will have to appear for a written Entrance Test, and if qualified, have to appear for an interview to be conducted by the Department or School or Centre concerned. However, the students who have qualified NET / SET / GATE / UGC (JRF) / CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder or have passed M.Phil as per UGC Regulations, 2009, will be exempted from appearing in the written Entrance Test to be conducted by the University. Such candidates will have to appear in the interview.

Note : It is to be noted that in the case of candidates holding M.Phil. Degree, exemption from appearing the Written Entrance Test for admission to Ph.D programmes,will be applicable to those candidates only who were admitted to the M.Phil programmes through Written Entrance Test followed by viva-voce/interview as per UGC Regulations, 2009.

Written Entrance Test and Interview :

Written Entrance Test and Interview will be taken for selection of eligible candidates for admission to Ph.D Programmes. Written Entrance Test will be of 100 marks. Total duration of the Test will be 3(three hours). Written Entrance Test will have two halves of 50 marks each.

  • First half will be common to all candidates belonging to Faculties of Arts, Fine Arts and Visual Arts. This half will include General Knowledge, Comprehension Test, Qualitative / Quantitative / Reasoning Aptitude etc. This half will be known as Common Research Aptitude Test.
  • Second half will be subject oriented. It will include Objective Type Questions (10 marks), Short Answer Type Questions (20 marks) and Essay writing on given topic or areas of interest of the candidate etc. {(within 300 words) (20 marks)}.

Qualifying Marks :

  1. Each candidate will have to obtain 40% {(30 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH)} individually asqualifying marks in both halves ( 1st half and 2nd half ) .
  2. (ii) In order to qualify for the Interview, each candidate will be required to score at least 50% {(45 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH)} marks (marks of 1st half and 2nd half taken together after screening the qualifying marks of 40% {(30 % for SC/ST/PWD (PH)}individually in both halves ( 1st half and 2nd half ) out of 100 marks.

Interview :

  • Each and every qualified candidate in Written Entrance Test and the candidates who have qualified / cleared M.Phil as per UGC Regulations, 2009 /NET / SET / GATE / UGC (JRF) / CSIR (JRF) or Teacher Fellowship Holder will be required to appear in Interview of 50 marks.
  • The Interview will be conducted by the Department concerned.
  • In the viva-voce/interview for admission to Ph.D programmes, qualifying marks will be 50% {(45% for SC,ST & PWD (PH)}.
  • In the case of candidates obtaining same marks in the viva-voce/interview for admission to Ph.D programmes, the merit will be determined by firstly counting the academic score obtained in the Master’s Degree; if not settled, then by counting the academic score obtained in the Bachelor’s Degree and so on, down the career up to madhyamik or its equivalent level.
  • Merit list of the candidates will be prepared only on the basis of the marks obtained in vivavoce / Interview.

RBU Admission Application Form 2015 :

  • RBU online Application forms can be Downloaded from Rabindra Bharati University website : www.rbu.ac.in only from 05th October, 2015 to 16th October, 2015 (upto 3.00 p.m.).
  • Last date for online payment in SBI Bank is 16th October, 2015 ( upto 4:00 p.m.)
  • No application form will be available from the University sales counter.


Requisite Application Processing Fees to be paid :

Application Processing Fee of Rupee 300/- + additional charge of Bank ( Rupee 180/-+ additional charge of Bank for PWD(PH) candidates ).

  • Publication of Eligibility List on the website : 03rd November, 2015 (after 4: 00 p.m.)
  • Downloading of Admit Cards : 06th November, 2015 to 17th December, 2015
  • Verification of Admit Cards : 16th to 18th November, 2015 between 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
  • Written Examination of C.E.T : 21st November, 2015 (1st half and 2nd half of all subjects )
  • Publication of result of C.E.T on the website : 04th December, 2015 (after 4: 00 p.m.)
  • Date of Viva Voce : 07th to 11th December, 2015
  • Result of Viva Voce (Publication of 1st Merit) on the website : 16th December, 2015 (after 4: 00 p.m.)
  • Provisional Online Admission of 1st Merit List : 17th to 18th December, 2015
  • Confirmation of Admission : 21st December, 2015
  • Commencement of Ph.D Course work Classes : 22nd December, 2015

RBU MPhil Admission Eligibility Criteria 2013 :

  • Candidates having Master’s degree with 55% marks ( 50 % for SC / ST ) or its equivalent grade from any UGC recognized University in India or an equivalent degree of a recognized foreign University preceded by graduation with Honours or its equivalent degree in the concerned or allied subject are eligible to apply for admission to the MPhil Program of study in his / her disciplinary subject of study or in a subject of allied discipline or in an inter disciplinary subject.
    1. For Human Development Studies ( Self – financing ) : Master’s degree in any subject coming under Humanities and Social Sciences with minimum 55% ( 50% for SC / ST ) marks in aggregate may also apply.
    2. For Women’s Studies ( Self – financing ) : Master’s degree in any subject with minimum 55% ( 50% for SC / ST ) marks in aggregate may also apply.
    3. For Comparative Literature ( Self – financing ) : Master’s degree in any Language and Literature subject ( e.g. English. Bengali, Hindi, Urdu etc. ) with minimum 55% ( 50% for SC / ST ) marks in aggregate may also apply.
    4. Candidates already in employment should apply through proper channel.

RBU MPhil Admission Procedure 2013 :

  • RBU Admission Application forms can be Downloaded from Rabindra Bharati University website : www.rbu.ac.in.
  • It is mandatory to attach the demand draft / pay order for Rupee 100/- drawn in favour of “Rabindra Bharati University”, payable at Kolkata with the downloaded form.
  • The duly filled in downloaded form along with copies of all mark sheets, certificates and other relevant documents and demand draft, has to be submitted in the Office of the following address :The Secretary,Faculty Councils at 56A,B.T. Road, Kolkata – 700 050.
