(D) Admission through CET
Admission is made on the basis of Common Entrance Test (CET), conducted by Punjab University for admission to BE / B.Tech / B.Arch courses in its Colleges / Department of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Punjab Engineering College.
Chandigarh CET Eligibility :
10+2 (Science Stream) exam with English, Physics, Chemistry and Maths or its equivalent from a recognised Board. Candidates who have appeared in the qualifying exam are also eligible.
Chandigarh CET Selection Process : Selection is on the basis of merit in CET conducted in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The test centres are at Chandigarh, Delhi and Ludhiana. Candidates for B.Arch. course are also required to appear in an aptitude test.
The merit list is notified in local newspapers / colleges. Candidates whose names figure in the merit list are required to appear for counselling on the specified dates.

One should have the courage to face challenges as there is no shortage of challenges in the engineering career. One need not search for solutions in books and should rather devise a solution and persuade others that the given solution is the best.

Engineers are in fact the problem solvers who search for quicker, better and less expensive ways to use the forces and materials of nature to meet challenges of today. Engineering is a key driver of human development.
Prospects an engineer’s job includes research and development of solution to technical problems by applying scientific theories and principles. An engineer has to devise, plan and supervise the construction of buildings, highways and transit systems.
He has to develop and implement improved ways to extract process and use raw material. He is also supposed to develop new materials that would improvise the performance of products and take advantage of innovations in technology.
Engineers also work in testing, production and maintenance. His work is to supervise production in factories and’ determine the causes of breakdowns, if any. He tests manufactured products to maintain quality and estimates the time and cost to complete projects.
Apart from doing all the above mentioned tasks, there are specialised sub disciplines which concern themselves with different areas of engineering work. A few of them include :
Aerospace Engineering : It deals with the design, development and maintenance of aircraft and spacecraft.
Chemical Engineering : It deals with the study of conversion of raw materials into usable commodities.
Civil Engineering : This sub discipline of engineering deals with the design and construction of public and private works like bridges and buildings.
Electrical Engineering : Electrical engineers design and develop the electrical systems such as transformers and other electronic goods.
Mechanical Engineering : It deals with the design of physical and mechanical systems such as engines, etc.
With the rapid advancement in technology, various other branches like computer engineering, biomedical engineering, nuclear engineering, etc., have come up as the most sought after sub disciplines of engineering.
