Horticulture is the Science which is associated with the Cultivation of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers, Spices, Plantation Crops, Tuber Crops, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and Post Harvest Technology their of. It plays an important role in agricultural economy in India. Horticultural crops being more producive, man – days generative and protective to health, in recent Years, the marketing demand for them has risen tremendously. Horticulture has developed as a powerful venture in agri – economic scenario of the country. To make this venture, more sound in time scale, in view of generating man power well versed in the field of horticulture, education avenues have been opened and so also the employment avenues.
Education Avenues :
The Postgraduation and Ph.D Degree Programs in Horticulture are offered in almost all agri – varsities of the country (Table1). However, some agri – varsities also offer Undergraduate Degree Program in horticulture.

Each and every State Agricultural University ( SAU ) has its own pattern of admission to various degree Programs based either on merit, entrance examination, payment, counselling or all. Alongwith, for admission to 15 % of total intake capacity in Undergraduate Degree Program and for 25 % of total intake capacity in PG Program in SAUs, Indian Council of Agricultural Research ( ICAR ), Pusa, New Delhi, organizes separate entrance examintion in the name of AIEEA – UG and AIEEA – PG everey Year. The suuccessful candidates are recommended for admission to UG and PG Programs to various SAUs as per their merit and choice.
