Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering – GATE 2017 is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of the candidate in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering / Technology / Architecture and postgraduate level subjects in Science. The GATE score of a candidate reflects a relative performance level in a particular subject in the exam.
GATE Admission to Postgraduate Courses ( Master’s and Doctoral ) with MHRD and other government Scholarships or Assistantships in Engineering / Technology / Architecture. Science is Open to those who qualify in GATE.
GATE 2017 examination for all the papers shall be conducted in online mode Only ( Computer Based Test ).
GATE 2017 will be conducted in the subjects ( also referred to as “papers” ). Candidates must familiarize with the paper code for the paper of their choice, as this knowledge will be required at the time of application form submission and appearing for the examination. A candidate is allowed to appear in ONLY ONE paper.
Since a candidate is allowed to appear in ONLY ONE of the 23 papers for which GATE 2017 examination is being held, the candidate has to make the choice of the paper he / she wishes to write carefully. The list of papers and paper codes for GATE 2017.

The Indian Institute of Science ( IISc ) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology ( IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee ) jointly administer the conduct of GATE. The operations related to GATE in each of the 8 zones are managed by a zonal GATE Office at the IITs or IISc. The Organizing Institute ( OI ) is responsible for the end – to – end process and coordination amongst the administering Institutes. The Organizing Institute for GATE 2017 is Indian Institute of Science.
New in GATE 2017
GATE is administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science ( IISc ) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology ( IITs ) on behalf of the National Coordination Board ( NCB ) – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development ( MHRD ), Government of India. The GATE committee, which comprises of representatives from these administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results.
The XE paper now has a new section on Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences ( section H ). With this the number of sections in the XE paper has increased to eight ( A – H ).
GATE 2017 is conducted through the collaboration of eight zones. The zones and the corresponding administrative institutes are :

The overall co – ordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2017 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, which is designated as the Organizing Institute for GATE 2017.
