TMISAT 2017 Eligibility

  • 10+2 / equivalent ( PCM -60% and minimum of 50% marks in English subject in 10th / 12th Examination. )

Note : In case of SC / ST candidates there will be a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks.

 For B.Tech. Marine Engineering & B. Sc. Nautical Technology :

  • Qualifying in IMUCET is mandatry for admission.
  • The following criteria have to be met in order to be eligible for admission into the B.Tech. Marine Engineering degree programme at Tolani Maritime Institute:

Age limit :

Age as on the date of admission on 17th July, 2017 shall be as follows :

  • Minimum age – 17 years
  • Maximum age – 25 Years

Note : For Scheduled Castes ( SC ) & Schedule Tribe candidates ( ST ) Candidates maximum age relaxation is for five ( 5 ) years.

Gender :

TMI encourages the participation of both genders without discrimination.

Marital Status : 

Only unmarried candidates will be considered.

Academic Qualifications :

You must have successfully completed the Senior Secondary Examination ( 10+2 ) or its equivalent with :

  • At least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics ( P C M ), and
  • At least 50% marks in English either in Class X or Class XII.

Physical Fitness :

Candidate for admission to marine courses ( DG Shipping-approved courses ) are required to produce certificate for medical fitness by Doctors approved by Director General of Shipping. List of approved doctors for issuing the certificate is available at http: / / / WriteReadData / userfiles / file / regular_list_24012017. pdf. The candidate must be physically fit and should meet the medical requirements as specified by DGS guidelines. Candidates with Disability ( DA ) are not eligible for admission to all marine and related courses.

Failure to meet the medical standards would disqualify a candidate for admission. In case of an appeal, the same will be referred to a medical board appointed by the Indian Maritime University. The decision of such medical board shall be final. Cadets are subject to further medical examination by the respective shipping companies before joining ships.

Note : All Candidates who qualify for B Tech ( Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering ) and B.Sc ( Ship Building & Repair ) degree courses will have to submit a Physical Fitness Certificate from Registered Medical Practitioner.

TMISAT 2017 Reservation of Seats

15% of the total seats available to Indian Nationals are reserved for eligible candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe and 27% Seats are reserved for Other Backward Class ( OBC ) candidates belonging to non- creamy layer ( NCL ) . For applicants belonging to SC / ST, a relaxation of 5% of the aggregate marks will be considered for all programmes except in English subject marks.

Reservation of seats in U.G courses for students from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands, Eight North Eastern States ( including Sikkim ) and Jammu & Kashmir in IMU, Campuses:-

Maximum number of seats reserved in a given Academic Year for the U.G Programmes put together in all IMU Campuses shall be as follows:

  •  Andaman and Nicobar Islands – 20 seats
  •  Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands – 10 seats
  •  Eight North Eastern States ( including Sikkim ) – 40 seats
  •  Jammu and Kashmir – 10 seats

Candidates belonging to SC / ST will be required to produce in support of the claim, a certificate, in original, as per the form given in APPENDIX I ( A ) from the District Magistrate or any other officer who has been designated by the State Government concerned as competent authority to issue such certificate of the District in which his parents ( or surviving parent or if there are no surviving parents, he / himself she / herself ) ordinarily reside at the time of Certificate Verification.

The OBC candidates ( non-creamy layer ) will be required to produce original OBC ( NCL ) certificate issued on or after 1st January, 2017 by a competent authority as per the form prescribed time of Certificate Verification.

Those failing to do so will NOT be considered for admission to the respective reserved seats.

TMISAT 2017 Online Application Form

How to Apply :

Online through this website :

Step I : Fill the application form on this website. Last date for availability of forms – 31st May 2017. For early processing of the form and appearing in TMISAT at National centres, apply before 25th April 2017.

Step II : Pay the non-refundable application and online test fees through the website using credit / debit card / internet banking OR by a Demand Draft / Pay Order for Rupee 1000/- in favour of “Tolani Maritime Institute”, payable at Pune.

Step III : Print duly filled application form and the summary generated. Send the same along with the transaction receipt, if paid online, OR Demand Draft / Pay Order to TMI. Please write your form no. and contact details on the reverse of the draft.

Online Registration :

Online Registration of Applicants with facility to upload photographs, scanned signatures, scanned copy of the 10th Std Mark sheet as proof of Date of Birth, scanned copy of 12th Std / Degree Certificate ( wherever applicable ) , scanned copy of the SC / ST / OBC ( NCL ) certificate ( wherever applicable ) and other relevant certificates ( wherever applicable ) . The candidates will be able to make payment for the Registration Fees Online, and download and print the filled-in application in standard formats. For Online Registration, applicants should visit the website of the Indian Maritime University at http: // and click on the CET May 2017 hyperlink.

  • Facility for applicants to download their Hall Tickets/ Admit Cards with the name of the Test Venue indicated.
  • Automated e -mails / SMS will be sent to every registered appl icant on successful registration of Application, uploading of Hall Ticket, publication of results, etc.
  • Evaluation of answers and publication of CET results within 5 days.

Candidates are requested to visit IMU’s website periodically to keep track of new announcements and changes if any. IMU shall not be responsible if any candidate is put to hardship because he did not keep himself abreast of the latest developments.

Necessary documents to be sent to TMI with all applications :

  • Printed copy of the application form and the summary generated after an application is made through this website
  • Two identical recent passport size photographs with name & form no. written at the back.
  • Self attested Copies of certificates and / or mark sheets of your 10th and 12th examinations ( ege where they appeared for these exams
  • Self attested Copy of Birth Certificate ( for proof of age and place of Birth ).
  • Downloaded copies of class XII marksheet ( on receipt ) from internet attested by school Principal
  • Copies of certificates for sports and any other extra curricular activities, if available ( from Std. VIII and above only ).
  • Online transaction receipt, if paid online, OR Demand Draft payable at Pune for Rupee 1000/- favouring Tolani Maritime Institute. Please write your form no. and contact details including mobile phone no. on the reverse of the Demand Draft.

Do’s and Don’ts : 

  • Each applicant must submit only one application form.
  • The application form must be completed in full, in English.
  • The full Name and Date of Birth entered in the application form must be same as that which appears on your School Leaving Certificate.
  • Please ensure your postal address, including PIN code and telephone numbers ( with STD codes ) are correct and free of spelling and other errors.
  • Application summary must be submitted in an envelope super – scribed with the words “Application for admission to Marine Engineering”.

TMISAT 2017 Exam Centres

The Computer-based CETs for IMU’s UG and PG programmes are scheduled to be held on Saturday 27th May, 2017 Afternoon between 2 pm and 5 pm in a single shift. They will be held simultaneously in the following 35 cities across India:

Note : For Candidates native to Andaman & Nicobar Islands or domiciled there for at least five years, a separate CET for UG programmes only will be conducted by the Andaman & Nicobar Administration on behalf of IMU. Candidates desirous of joining MBA/ M.Tech / M.Sc programmes must apply online for IMU’s CETs.

The Applicants can give 3 preferences for the cities where they wish to take the CET while registering online. While every effort will be made to accommodate an Applicant within his 3 preferred cities, the IMU reserves the right to divert Applicants to the nearest cities if sufficient number of candidates are not forthcoming in certain cities and also if there are too many candidates for a particular city. If there is a large number of Applicants for certain cities, the IMU/Service Provider may arrange multiple Test Venues in such cities.

The name and address of the Test Venue will be indicated on the Hall Ticket/Admit Card and Applicants are requested to be present at the Test Venue at least 30 minutes before the time of commencement of the CETs.

TMISAT 2017 Selection Process

A successful career as a merchant mariner requires more than just a strong academic foundation. Other characteristics that are necessary include:

  • Communication skills
  • Temperamental suitability for a sea career
  • Leadership qualities
  • Physical fitness
  • Aptitude for scientific concepts

Tolani Maritime Institute’s selection process will test candidates on each of the above parameters by taking into account a candidate’s 10+2 PCM marks, rank in IMUCET, result of the TMI online entrance exam, performance in an interview and satisfactory medical tests.

For all eligible applications received by 25 April 2017 :

The online test and interview will be conducted in the first half of May 2017 at Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Ranchi, Jaipur and Guwahati. Candidates will be shortlisted based on marks in PCM, online test, IMU test rank and interview. The selection is also subject to medical fitness a per DGS norms.

For applications received between 26 April and 31 May 2017 :

Applicants shortlisted on the basis of their PCM marks and IMUCET rank will be called to TMI campus in June 2017 for online test. Candidates will be short listed based on performance in above mentioned tests and medical fitness as per DGS norms. 

Online Test :

The on-line test has a multiple-choice format covering Physics and Mathematics. The questions are of 10+2 level. There is one section each with negative marking and duration of the test is one hour.

This test is conducted in 12 centres across India.

Personal Interview :

Applicants are interviewed by a panel of educators and maritime professionals to assess the applicants’ communication skills, leadership potential, clarity of thought, maturity and reasoning abilities. The panel also looks for any extracurricular achievements of the candidate.

Medical Examination :

Medical practitioners appointed by the Institute will examine all selected candidates for certifying conformation with the medical requirements laid down by the Institute.
