TMISAT 2018 Selection Process

A successful career as a merchant mariner requires more than just a strong academic foundation. Other characteristics that are necessary include

  • Communication skills
  • Temperamental suitability for a sea career
  • Leadership qualities
  • Physical fitness
  • Aptitude for scientific concepts

Tolani Maritime Institute’s selection process will test candidates on each of the above parameters by taking into account a candidate’s 10+2 PCM marks, rank in IMUCET, result of the TMI online entrance exam, performance in an interview and satisfactory medical tests.

For all eligible applications received by April 2018

The online test and interview will be conducted in the first half of May, 2018 at Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Ranchi, Jaipur and Guwahati. Candidates will be shortlisted based on marks in PCM, online test, IMU test rank and interview. The selection is also subject to medical fitness a per DGS norms.

For applications received between April and May 2018

Applicants shortlisted on the basis of their PCM marks and IMUCET rank will be called to TMI campus in June, 2018 for online test. Candidates will be short listed based on performance in above mentioned tests and medical fitness as per DGS norms.

Online Test

The on-line test has a multiple-choice format covering Physics and Mathematics. The questions are of 10+2 level. There is one section each with negative marking and duration of the test is one hour.

This test is conducted in 12 centres across India.

Personal Interview

Applicants are interviewed by a panel of educators and maritime professionals to assess the applicants’ communication skills, leadership potential, clarity of thought, maturity and reasoning abilities. The panel also looks for any extracurricular achievements of the candidate.

Medical Examination

Medical practitioners appointed by the Institute will examine all selected candidates for certifying conformation with the medical requirements laid down by the Institute.

TMISAT 2018 Exam Centres

The Computer-based CETs for IMU’s UG and PG programmes are scheduled to be held on May, 2018 Afternoon between 2 pm and 5 pm in a single shift. They will be held simultaneously in the following 35 cities across India:

Note : For Candidates native to Andaman & Nicobar Islands or domiciled there for at least five years, a separate CET for UG programmes only will be conducted by the Andaman & Nicobar Administration on behalf of IMU. Candidates desirous of joining MBA / M.Tech / M.Sc programmes must apply online for IMU’s CETs.

The Applicants can give 3 preferences for the cities where they wish to take the CET while registering online. While every effort will be made to accommodate an Applicant within his 3 preferred cities, the IMU reserves the right to divert Applicants to the nearest cities if sufficient number of candidates are not forthcoming in certain cities and also if there are too many candidates for a particular city. If there is a large number of Applicants for certain cities, the IMU/Service Provider may arrange multiple Test Venues in such cities.

The name and address of the Test Venue will be indicated on the Hall Ticket / Admit Card and Applicants are requested to be present at the Test Venue at least 30 minutes before the time of commencement of the CETs.
