CEED Entrance Examination 2017

CEED ( Common Entrance Examination for Design ) is an All India Examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay ( IIT, Bombay ), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India. The CEED Examination Tests the candidates for Visual Perception Ability, Drawing Skills, Design Aptitude and Communication Skills. CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to Post Graduate M.Des. Programs at the Industrial Design Centre, IIT Bombay; IDDC, IIT Delhi; CPMD, IISc Bangalore; Design Program, IIT Kanpur.

CEED 2017 Entrance Exam

Common Entrance Examination for Design ( CEED ) Qualifying Examination for Admission to Master of Design ( M.Des ) Programs at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur, and Ph.D. Programs in Design in some Institutes, for the Academic Year 2017 – 2018.

CEED 2017 Admission Courses

CEED qualified students are eligible for the following postgraduate programs in various institutes with the specialization as mentioned :

 a) Master of Design Programs 

1. IISc Bangalore : M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering*, PhD in Design.

2. IIT Bombay : M.Des. in the following below :

  • Industrial Design,
  • Communication Design,
  • Animation,
  • Interaction Design,
  • Mobility and Vehicle Design.
  • PhD in Design

3. IIT Delhi : M.Des. in Industrial Design.

4. IIT Guwahati : M.Des. in Design.

5. IIT Hyderabad : M.Des. Visual Design, PhD in Design.

5. IIT Kanpur : M.Des. in Design*. PhD in Design.

* For the M.Des programs at IISc Bangalore and IIT Kanpur, the GATE qualified candidates will also be considered.

b) Ph.D Programs in Design ( IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur )

CEED 2017 Eligibility

Candidates must have passed a degree / diploma programme of at least 4 years ( after 10+2 level ), or must be appearing for the final examination of such a program by July 2017, or must have passed the GD Arts Diploma Programme ( 10 + 5 Level ) by July 2016. Before applying for CEED, Candidates are advised to check whether they meet the required eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes.

There is no age limit to appear for CEED. Besides, a candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.

CEED 2017 Eligibility for M.Des. Program

The candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks ( 50% in case of SC / ST ) or equivalent grades in the qualifying examination.

Industrial Design :

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design / Interior Design, or equivalent
  2. Professional Diploma in Design ( NID / CEPT, or equivalent )

Mobility and Vehicle design :

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design / Interior Design, or equivalent
  2. Professional Diploma in Design ( NID / CEPT, or equivalent )
  3. BF ( 4 year professional program in Fine art / Commercial art after 10+2 )

Visual Communication, Animation and Interaction Design :

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design / Interior Design, or equivalent
  2. Professional Diploma in Design ( NID / CEPT, or equivalent )
  3. B.F.A. ( 4 year professional program, after 10+2 )
  4. G.D. Art ( 5 year program after 10th ) with one year professional experience
  5. Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications ( 2 year program after 10+2+3 )

M.Des. Program for Foreign Nationals

  1. A minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grades at the qualifying examination.
  2. Valid TOEFL score ( For candidates from non – English speaking countries )
  3. Outstanding portfolio ( To be evaluated by PGC of IDC, IIT Bombay )

CEED 2017 Eligibility for Regular M.Des. Candidates

  1. 4 – year Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in Design, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or a Design related field OR 4 – year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT ( 5 – year program )
  2. A minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades in the qualifying degree / diploma.

Note : All candidates ( except those having Batch / B.Des degrees from an IIT with a minimum CPI of 7.0 ) must possess avalid score of Common Entrance Examination for Design ( CEED ).

CEED 2017 Exam Pattern

  • CEED 2017 will be conducted on Sunday, 22nd January, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. – 01:00 P.M.
  • The language of the question paper will be English.
  • The examination will consist of Two Parts, Part A and Part B. Candidates have to attempt questions from both the parts. Part A contains multiple choice ( MCQ ) Type questions and Part B consists of design and hand drawing type questions.
  • Part A will be conducted from 10:00 to 11:00 followed by Part B between 11:00 and 13:00. Answers to Part A have to be given as one of the choices in the computer itself. Answers to Part B have to be given in the answer book provided by the invigilator. These answer books will be collected for manual correction at the end of the examination.
  • Part A will be used as a screening test. If N is the total number of seats available in all the participating Institutes, then approximately the top 10xN candidates will be shortlisted from Part A. Part B will be evaluated only for the candidates who get shortlisted from Part A. ONLY the scores from Part B will be used for preparing the list of qualified candidates ( Merit List ) in CEED 2017.
  • After the declaration of the result, CEED score cards will be available for downloading to all the qualified candidates. Hard copy of the CEED score cards will NOT be available and hence will not be sent to the qualified candidates.

CEED 2017 Application Form

CEED Application Form 2017 must be submitted online, through the website http://ceed.iitb.ac.in/.

Application Fee :

  • Rupee 1,100 for all women candidates
  • Rupee 1,100 for ( SC / ST / PwD ) Candidates
  • Rupee 2,200 for all other candidates

Note that this fee is non refundable and non transferable. The application fee has to be paid through the payment option provided on the website while submitting the application form. Detailed instructions related to the payment of application fee are given on the online application portal. Credit Card, Debit Card and Net – Banking Options are available. The Application Fee Shown above Does Not Include Service and other Charges and the processing fees that the banks may levy.

The normal application fee shown above is applicable till the regular closing date of 11th November, 2016 – 23:45 Hours. A late fee of Rupee 500 is applicable to All Candidates for applications submitted after the regular closing Date.

Instructions for Filling the CEED 2017 Online Application Form

The instructions and other information regarding filling online application are given on the Official Webpage. Please read them carefully. In order to complete the application submission procedure, you need the following items :

CEED 2017 Online Application Interface requires that copies of your photograph and signature be uploaded as electronic files. Please upload good quality photographs. Poor quality of photographs submitted will lead to rejection of your CEED Application, without any refund of the application fees.

The CEED Score Card 2017 will include the photograph you submit and also a photograph that will be taken at the time of the exam.

1. Photograph Specifications :

  • The photograph must be in color and must be taken in a professional studio. Mobile phone photographs and self composed portraits are NOT acceptable.
  • The photograph must be taken against a white or a very light background.
  • The photograph should not be more than 3 months old.
  • Face should occupy about 50% of the area in the photograph, and with a full face view looking into the camera directly.
  • The main features of the face must not be covered by hair of the head, any cloth or shadow. Forehead, nose, cheeks, lip, chin should be clearly visible, and both eyes should be open.
  • If you normally wear spectacles, glare on the glasses is not acceptable in your photo. Glare can be avoided with a slight downward tilt of the glasses or by removing the glasses for the photo shoot.
  • You must not wear spectacles with dark or tinted glasses, only clear glasses are permitted.
  • Ask your photo studio to provide the image in a JPEG format that can be uploaded.
  • Maximum pixel resolution for JPEG : 640 x 480 ( 0.3 Mega pixel ) ( Ask your studio to reduce it to this resolution if it is higher )
  • Minimum pixel resolution for JPEG : 320 x 240.
  • For your own benefit it may be prudent not to intentionally change your facial features, or hair style as in the photograph until the day of the exam.

2. Signature Specifications 

  • Please put your signature with black or dark blue ink on a white paper.
  • Get the signature digitally photographed / image scanned by a professional photo studio, and get the image cropped by the studio itself.
  • Only JPEG image formats will be accepted.
  • The maximum pixel resolution for the image is 800 x 300.
  • The minimum pixel resolution for the image is 400 x 150.
  • Mobile phone photographs of signatures are not acceptable.

CEED Admit Cards 2017 will be available for downloading from the CEED website from 26th December, 2016 To 21st January, 2017. Please take a clear printout ( in color ) of the admit card before coming to the examination centre.

CEED 2017 Selection Process

1. All candidates applying for the MDes program in Design must possess a valid CEED score. All India Common Entrance Examination for Design ( CEED ).

2. Final selection for admission to the MDes program is based on the CEED score and on performance in a creative interactive session and personal interview to be conducted at the Department of Design in May / June. Candidates are encouraged to present a portfolio of their earlier work.
