NEST 2019 Exam Date

The National Entrance Screening Test or NEST is a compulsory test for admission to the 5 year Integrated MSc Program in basic sciences – Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics – at National Institute of Science Education and Research ( NISER ), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai – Department of Atomic Energy Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences ( UM – DAE CBS ), Mumbai. Both NISER and CBS are autonomous institutions established by Department of Atomic Energy ( DAE ), Government of India, in 2007.

NEST 2019 Eligibility Criteria for Admission

It is important for all the students to fulfil the minimum eligibility norms in order to appear for NEST 2019 exam. Those who do not satisfy the eligibility criteria will not be allowed to appear for the exam.


  • Both general and OBC applicants must be born on or after 01st August, 1998.
  • A relaxation of 5 years is provided on the upper age limit for SC / ST candidates.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have completed class 11 and 12 with any of the three as main subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
  • Mathematics as a mandatory subject at 10+2 level.
  • Students from General or OBC category must score a minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying examination i.e. class 12 board exams.
  • The students of reserved category i.e. SC / ST need to score only 55% marks in the qualifying examination.


  • Only students who satisfy the rules of Indian citizenship are eligible to apply for the exam.
  • NRI students or PIO or OCI candidates are not eligible to apply for the NEST 2019 exam.
  • Candidates from J & K, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state have a quota of 15%.

NEST 2019 Exam Pattern

  • NEST 2019 Exam Pattern has not been changed since the program started.
  • There has been a modification in the syllabus at the time, but the medium of exam and exam mode are the same.
  • The questions are still MCQ type and students need to work on the syllabus thoroughly to crack the exam.

NEST 2019 Application Form

How to apply

  • NEST application form will be available at the website
  • Click on “apply online”.
  • Fill the details of applicant’s name, date of birth, class X roll number, gender, mobile number and email id on the page to complete the registration process.
  • Enter the details of the captcha code and click on “submit” button.

Application fee

  • The application fee has to be paid in accordance with the category details.
  • The application fee can only be paid in the online mode through credit / debit card.
  • The details of the application fee are as follows
    • General / OBC ( only males ) – [rupee]1000/-.
    • SC / ST / Female / PWD ( only males ) – [rupee]500/-.
    • All Females – [rupee]500/-.

NEST 2019 Admit Card

  • NEST Admit Card will be issued to only those candidates whose application form has been successfully accepted. Students must check the website in the last week of April 2019 to download their respective admit card.

  • NEST Exam Centers are predefined by the conducting body for the convenience of aspirants.
  • There are a total of 106 exam centers at which the exam will be conducted.
  • Students need to select only three exam centers from the list of centers given on the official website.
  • There is no provision for the introduction of additional exam centers if a request is sent to the NEST exam authorities.
  • Students must report to the center prior to the reporting time given on the admit card.
  • There has been no addition or subtraction of exam centers reported by the authorities.
  • In case of any change in the list, students would be updated by the release of an official notification.

NEST 2019 Results

  • NEST 2019 Result will be declared in the online mode in June 2019.
  • Students will be able to check their result on the official website by providing the details of their registration number and password.
  • NEST Scorecard will be displayed as part of the result declaration process and students need to check the  NEST result online.

Steps to download NEST Scorecard

  • Go to the official NEST 2019 website and check for the tab “NEST 2019 Result”.
  • Provide details of Candidate’s username and password.
  • Enter the captcha code displayed on the screen in the text box given for the same.
  • Click on “submit” button and the NEST scorecard is displayed on the screen.

NEST 2019 Counselling

  • In group discussion candidate’s in-depth knowledge is checked.
  • In personal interview, candidates are counselled and mentally prepared for the course they are aspiring.
  • Since it is a five-year integrated course so students need to really focus on their real aspiration towards a specific course.
  • The following documents are required at the time of counselling
    • Mark sheet of Class X board exam ( original & photocopy )
    • Mark sheet of Class XII board exam ( original & photocopy )
    • Birth certificate / school leaving certificate ( original & photocopy )
    • Four passport size colored photographs
    • Demand draft in favor of NISER, payable at Bhubaneswar / Demand draft in favour of CBS, payable at Mumbai, depending upon counseling invitation.
    • Non-creamy layer OBC certificate, if applicable ( original & photocopy )
    • Disability certificate, if applicable ( original & photocopy )
    • Proof of Indian citizenship, if born outside India ( original & photocopy )
    • Caste certificate, if applicable ( original & photocopy )
    • Verification certificate, if applicable ( original & photocopy )
    • If a candidate has submitted original documents to another institute, he / she must bring official letter ( undertaking ) from that institute.
