NID Courses Eligibility 2019

B.Des & GDPD 

Educational Qualification : 

  • Applications for academic year 2019–20 are open to applicants who have passed or will appear for higher secondary ( 10+2 ) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2018–19 in any stream ( Science, Arts, Commerce, etc. ) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.

Examinations considered equivalent to these are as follows :

  • Final examination of the 10+2 system under a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities ( AIU, Refer http://www.aiu.ac.in )
  • Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities ( AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org 
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities ( AIU, Refer www.aiuweb.org 
  • H.S.C. vocational examination.
  • General Certificate Education ( GCE ) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka.
  • AICTE approved three-year Full time Diploma after Class X offered by Board of Technical Education of  any state in India or Union Territories as mentioned on http://www.facilities.aicte-india.org/dashboard/pages/dashboardaicte.php
  • Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities ( AIU ) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India. The certificate is required to be submitted at the time of document verification.

Overseas Category ( Supernumerary ) candidates :

  • Foreign citizens – applicants holding citizenship of a country other than the Republic of India—are eligible to apply only under the overseas ( supernumerary ) category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria mentioned in Sections 4.1 of Admissions Handbook 2019-20: B.Des / GDPD.

Age Limit : 

  • For Indian Nationals in General Category:  Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30th June, 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer  ( OBC-NCL ), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe ( ST ) ):  Upper age limit for candidates is 23 years as on 30th June, 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1996 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category:  Upper age limit for candidates is 25 years as on 30th June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1994 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category:  Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years as on 30th June 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1999 are eligible to apply for admission.

M.Des

Educational Qualification :

  • In addition to satisfying the above age criteria, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admissions :
  • Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in June 2019.
  • Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations before July 2018.
  • Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design / Fine Arts / Applied Arts / Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicants must have passed the Diploma examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in June 2019.
  • Applicants in the final year of their Bachelor degree / Full-time Diploma programme whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate by the date of application to NID, are eligible to apply, subject to passing all subjects without any backlog. Such candidate will have to submit / produce Provisional Degree certificate at the time of counselling.

Overseas Category ( Supernumerary candidates ) :

  • Foreign applicants—holding citizenship of a country other than India—are eligible to apply only under the overseas category, provided they fulfill all the eligibility criteria mentioned in Sections 4.1.

Age Limit : 

  • For Indian Nationals in General Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years as on 30th June, 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1989 are eligible to apply for admission.

  • For Indian Nationals in Person with Disabilities ( PwD ) Reserved Category:  Upper age limit for candidates is 35 years as on 30th June,  2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1984 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category:  Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years as on 30th June, 2019. Only those candidates born on or after 1st July 1989 are eligible to apply for admission.

B.Des & GDPD

  • Of the seats available for the B.Des. programme, 15% supernumerary seats have been created for overseas applicants. The actual number of seats available under Overseas ( supernumerary ) category are as follows:

M.Des

  • Of the seats available for the M.Des., 15% supernumerary seats have been created for overseas applicants. The actual number of seats available under Overseas (supernumerary) category are as follows:
    • Master of Design ( per discipline ) – 2 Seats

NID Application Form 2019

  • NID Application Form Details will be available at the official website : www.nid.edu

Step 1 : Sign up / Registration

  • All the candidates applying for BDes / GDPD or MDes Programme are required to sign up online before proceeding to fill the application form at http://admissions.nid.edu.
  • Candidate  are required to provide a valid email address [must be active for at-least next one year] and an active mobile number while registering, since these contacts will be used for all future communication with the applicant. Ensure that this email id & mobile number is active till 31st  August, 2019.
  • After completing sign-up, an email will be sent to the registered email ID ( do remember to check candidate’s spam or junk folders in case Candidate do not find the email in candidate’s  inbox ). In case of wrong email address and / or mobile number has been provided during sign up, candidate  are required to sign-up afresh with the correct details with the different email ID.
  • Do not delete the email sent to Candidate, as this will be useful for all future references.
  • Login to candidate’s  account using the email id and date of birth provided during sign-up.

Step 2: Fill in Online Application Form

  • Login and proceed to Step 2–Application Form.
  • Fill in all the required details.
  • Click ‘Save & Exit’ to complete the form at a later time or date.
  • After filling all details, click ‘Save & Proceed’ to go to the ‘Upload Document’ section. 
  • Note :Only for applicants of MDes Programme.

For the applicants applying only in one discipline of M.Des Programme.

  • Such applicants are required to appear in DAT Prelims comprising of the CDAT [ Common Design Aptitude Test] and one domain-specific test of the faculty stream of the discipline selected by them. The total duration of DAT Prelim will be 2.5 hrs.

For the applicants applying in two disciplines of M.Des Programme.

  • Such applicants are required to appear in DAT Prelims comprising of
  • The CDAT [ Common Design Aptitude Test ] and ONE domain-specific test if the two disciplines selected fall under same Faculty Stream. The total duration of DAT Prelim will be 2.5 hrs.OR
  • The CDAT [ Common Design Aptitude Test ] and TWO domain-specific test if the two disciplines selected falls under different Faculty Streams. The total duration of DAT Prelim will be 4.5 hrs.

Step 3 :Upload candidate’s Documents :

  • Upload a scanned photograph as per the instructions. All photographs must be in JPG / JPEG format and under 100 KB in size. It must be a coloured photograph taken at a professional studio. Photographs with self-composed portraits will not be accepted.
  • Upload candidate’s scanned signature as per the instructions. All signature files must be in JPG / JPEG format and under 100 KB in size. Candidate should have candidate’s  signature digitally photographed or scanned and cropped to the required size.
  • Candidates applying under the OBC-NCL category are required to upload their valid OBC-NCL Certificate issued by a competent authority. The date of issue of OBC-NCL certificate should be 01st April, 2018 or later. The certificate must be in JPG / JPEG format and not exceed 150 KB in size.
  • Candidates applying under the SC and ST categories are required to upload their valid Caste Certificate issued by a competent authority. The certificate must be in JPG / JPEG format and not exceeding 150 KB in size.
  • Candidates applying under the Persons with Disability ( PwD ) category are required to upload their valid Disability Certificate issued by a competent medical authority as per the guidelines of the Government of India. The certificate must be in JPG / JPEG format and not exceeding 150 KB in size.
  • Candidates applying under the Overseas category are required to upload the first and last page of their valid passport, clearly showing all of their personal information. The document must be in JPG / JPEG format and not exceeding 150 KB in size.
  • Once Candidate are done uploading all necessary documents, click ‘Save and Exit’ to complete the form at a later time or date.
  • Click ‘Save & Proceed’ to go to the Payment section.

Step 4 : Pay Application Fee & Print : 

  • Select candidate’s preferred mode of payment—either credit/debit card to pay online or demand draft to pay offline—and submit the required details.
  • Candidate  will be asked to verify candidate’s  details, after which candidate can proceed to make the payment.
  • Note : Take a moment to review candidate’s information as Candidate  will be able to modify or edit it only during the window to edit the Application Form from 1400 hrs. on Tuesday, 20th November, 2018 until 1400 hrs. on Thursday, 22nd November, 2018.  ( Here Payment Transaction Number will be generated which is meant for reconciliation of candidate’s payment only )
  • After paying online, Application Form Number will be generated and Candidate will be redirected to the ‘Print’ section where Candidate can save candidate’s form as a PDF file and print it. candidate  are not required to send the application form by post. refer this Application Form Number for all future correspondence.
  • If paying via demand draft, the draft should be in favour of ‘All India Management Association’ payable at New Delhi. Candidate will be asked to fill in the details of the DD online to complete the submission process. This should be done before 1400 hrs. on Friday, 09th November 2018.
  • To complete the application process, Candidate  must send the demand draft [ via speed post / courier only] and a printout of candidate’s  application form in a single envelope to the following address, before 19th November, 2018 to :

  • Note that candidates applying online are not required to send the application form by post.
  • Note : The National Institute of Design has authorized the All India Management Association, New Delhi, to process all its applications for the M.Des., B.Des. and GDPD programmes.

NID Results 2019

B.Des & GDPD

  • In order to be considered for the merit list, a candidate must have appeared for all the tests in both the DAT Prelims and the DAT Mains.

Results for DAT Prelims :

  • Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category ( OPEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PwD ). Results for admission to NID for the Academic Year 2019–20 for the B.Des. (including overseas candidates ) and GDPD programmes will be declared only on the official admissions website ( www.admissions.nid.edu ) as per the schedule announced in Section
  • The candidates’ scores will also be available for viewing at this time. Separate result score cards will not be sent individually to the candidates. In case the total marks scored by two or more candidates are the same, the following tie-break policy will be used for awarding ranks:
    • Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Part B of the Design Aptitude Test – Prelims.
    • If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Part A of the Design Aptitude Test- Prelims.
    • If this still does not break the tie, then both the candidates will be assigned the same rank.

M.Des
