It will aid technology transfer in geomatics
A state-of-the-art research facility with Japanese collaboration, the Anna University – PASCO Japan Research Facility, was inaugurated at Anna University (AU) here on Friday.
It will help transfer Japanese geomatics technology to Anna University.
PASCO is a leading Japanese firm in the area of remote sensing and geomatic engineering applications. Geomatics is the science and technology of gathering, analyzing, interpreting and using geographic information.

The new facility would encourage advancement of geomatics research and applications in India and attract scientists and students interested in research, yoshiaki kodaki, consul general of japan in chennai, said. One of the projects of the new facility would be the building of an early tsunami warning system in India. Apart from research and consultancy, the facility would focus on developing patents and products of global quality, Anna university vice- chancellor D.Viswanathan said. Technology transfer from PASCO would involve laser sensors as against the conventional electromagnetic spectrum, Dr. S. kaliappan, director, IRS, said. Geomatics technology would find application in disaster management and natural resources mapping. As the mapping would be of high quality, the new facility would be able to submit projects to international funding agencies. The new centre would also be used as an educational facility for the university’s geomatics and civil engineering students. Yoichi sugimoto, president and CEO, and B.babu mahendran, general manger of PASCO corporation, Japan, were present at the inaugural function.
