Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2007

Admission to Postgraduate Courses (Master’s and Doctoral) in the country, with MHRD and some other Government Scholarships / Assistantships, in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Pharmacy / Science is open to those who qualify in GATE.
Eligibility: The candidates with following academic background are eligible to appear for GATE 2007.
(a) Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Pharmacy and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes; (b) Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes; (c) Candidates in the second or higher year of Four-year integrated Master’s degree programme (Post-B.Sc) in Engineering / Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master’s Degree programme and Dual Degree programmes in Engineering / Technology ; (d) Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professionals societies recognized by UPSC / AICTE (e.g. AMIE) as equivalent to B.E. / B. Tech (those who have completed Section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible).
There are two different processes by which a candidate can apply for GATE 2007, namely, “online” and “offline”. For general category candidates, the application fee is Rs.900 for the online process and Rs. 1000 for the offline process. For SC / ST candidates, the fee is Rs. 400 for online and Rs. 500 for offline. The application fee is not refundable.
Online submission of application forms can be made by accessing the IITs and IISc GATE websites (
http://www.iitr.ac.in/gate). The candidate should pay the Application Fee through an SBI ATM or through a Demand Draft in favour of `Chairman GATE, IIT Kanpur` on any nationalized bank payable at `Kanpur`. The candidate must submit the payment details while filling up the Online Form, Candidates are required to take a print of the Online Application Form after successful submission of data. The printed form, with candidate signature and photograph at appropriate places, and the Demand Draft / original ATM transaction-slip must be sent ONLY to The Organizing Chairman, GATE, IIT Kanpur, Kanpur 208016.
Offline process involves procuring the Information Brochure and Application Form on payment of cash from the designated Bank Branches. Candidates can also obtain the Information Brochure and Application Form by Post from / or personally at the GATE offices. For this purpose a Demand Draft is to be sent for the amount as above to the Chairman, GATE of the corresponding zonal GATE office, along with a request letter and two self-addressed slips. Filled in Application Form along with the bank pay-in-slip / receipt of payment from GATE office must be sent to the respective zonal GATE office depending on the examination city where the candidate wishes to appear.
