Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2008Organizing institute: Indian Institute of Science Bangalore Admission to Postgraduate Courses (Masters and Doctoral) in the country, with MHRD and some other Government Scholarships/ Assistantships in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy/Science is open to those who qualify in GATE. GATE 2008 will be conducted on Sunday, February 10, 2008. Eligibility: The candidates with following academic backgrounds are eligible to appear for GATE 2008. (a) Bachelor degree holders in Engineering Technology/ Architecture/Pharmacy and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes;
(b) Master degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/ Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes;
(c) Candidates in the second or higher year of four-year Integrated Master degree program (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering; Technology or in the third or higher year of five-year Integrated Master Degree program and Dual Degree program in Engineering/Technology;
(d) Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognised by UPSC/ AICTE (e.g. AMIE) as equivalent to B.E ;B Tech (those who have completed Section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible).
There are two different processes by which a candidate can apply for GATE 2008, namely, "online" and -offline". For GENERAL category candidates, the application fee is Rs.900 for online process and Rs.1000 for offline process. For SC/ST candidates, the fee is Rs.400 for online process and Rs.500 for offline process The application fee is not refundable. Online Application Process Submission of application forms may be made by accessing the websites of any of the IITs and IISc. Bangalore. The mode of payment is only through demand draft. For details, refer to any of the websites of IITs or IISc given below. The candidate should pay the Application Fee through a Demand Draft in favour of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore' on any nationalized bank payable at Bangalore' The candidate must submit the payment details while filling up the Online Application Form Candidates are required to take a print of the Online Application Form after successful submission of data. The printed form, with candidate's signature and photograph at appropriate places, and the Demand Draft must be sent ONLY to The Organizing Chairman GATE. HSc Bangalore 560012 by registered or speed post. Offline Application Process Information Brochures and Application Forms can be obtained on cash payment from the designated Bank Branches corresponding to each zone, given below. Candidates can also obtain Information Brochures and Application Forms by Post from/or personally at the GATE offices. For this purpose a Demand Draft is to be sent submitted for the amount mentioned as above to the Chairman. GATE of the corresponding zonal GATE office mentioned below, including a request letter and two self-addressed slips. Filled in application form along with an original bank pay — in — slip/receipt of payment from GATE office must be sent/ submitted to the respective zonal GATE office of the examination city where the candidate wishes to appear.
