Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management- Kerala (IIITM-K) is an Autonomous Educational Institution established by the Government of Kerala in 2000. The Institute currently offers a two-year Master of Science in Information technology for B.Tech/BE and MCA graduates. The Institute provides a pedagogically effective learning ambiance through extensive educational technologies and web-enhanced learning. The Institute is actively involved in research and IT enabled socially relevant projects. The Institute is located inside the Technopark campus, Trivandrum, the largest IT park of India.

Master of Science in Information Technology MS (IT)

MS (IT) is a full time two-year postgraduate programme. It includes three semesters of regular classes, summer projects/research and internship. This is an autonomous postgraduate programme approved by the Board of Directors of IIITM-K, constituted by the Government of Kerala. The programme is well respected in the industry and its graduates are well placed.

The earlier 18-month Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology (PGDIT), recognized by University of Kerala, has been upgraded to the present MS (IT) Programme.

Internship & Project Work

A project report has to be submitted at the end of the internship period and will contain a record of research or development work involving technology as well as business perspectives with relevant results. Students have to do the work in any reputed Industry, R D organizations, or may join with any research/R & D projects of the institute. The industry or institution that offers internship to any student will nominate a project supervisor and one of the IIITM-K faculty or professional staff will be nominated by the Institute as Co-Guide for the project to be done by the student. The concerned supervisor should have relevant domain expertise and project execution experience.

Placement

The institute has graduated four batches of PGDIT and one batch of MS IT. Most of the graduates are well-placed in major companies like IBM, GE, Oracle, TCS, MindTree, Infosys, Zensar Technologies, Tata Elxsi, V-Moksha, HCL Infosystems, Patni Computer Systems, Siemens, Amdocs, US Technology, IBS, Wipro, Ingenero, Ernst & Young, Huawei Technologies and several others.

The institute has an active placement cell with several experts providing orientation and counseling for its students. The students are actively in touch with the institute alumni in different companies. The institute has close relations with many IT companies, leading institutions and organizations that help its graduates getting good exposure and good placement.

MS-IT Selection Process

Admission to the 2-year Postgraduate Programme in Information Technology MS (IT) commencing in August 2007 will be through an All India Online Entrance Test (INET2007) at 10 selected cities throughout the country. Candidates with valid GATE / CAT score with 80 or above percentile (or above 300 marks) may apply directly without undertaking the INET2007. Institute will screen applications of all those who qualify either through GATE, CAT or INET2007 and prepare a short-list of candidates to be called for the interview.

Those short-listed for the test will be called for Interview at IIITM-K premises.

Number of Seats: The intake of the 2007-2008 batch of the Postgraduate Programme will be 60 seats. Admission is open to students from all over India. 50% of seats are reserved for candidates who are natives of the State of Kerala. Reservation of seats for categories of communities will be as per rules. In case some of the reserved seats are not filled, the unfilled seats will be transferred to other categories as per statutes.

Eligibilty

Entry-level requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Engineering/Technology or Master’s Degree in Computer Applications (MCA) with a consistent performance of minimum of 60% marks from matriculation onwards and the qualifying examination. Candidates who are in the final year of the qualifying degree examinations are also eligible to appear in the All India Entrance Examination for consideration of provisional admission. However they should have cleared and all the subjects before they appear for the selection interviews in July 2007 in case they qualify in the written test.

If an applicant is found ineligible, even at a later date, after admission to the Institute, his/ her admission will be cancelled. All admissions will be subject to verification of the original certificates/documents of the candidates. The decision of the Admission Committee of the IIITM-K regarding the eligibility of the candidate shall be final.

All India Entrance Test (INET2007)

INET2007 is an on-line test, will be held in one session of 2 hours duration at one of the centers of Reliance Web World in select cities. The timing and your test center will be notified in the Admit Card that has to be downloaded from the website. The questions will be of multiple-choice nature. The on-line test will be held at respective places on
9th June 2007. The date of the entrance examination will not be changed even if the above date is declared a public holiday for any reason. There will be questions to test skills in Aptitude, Basic Mathematics, Basic Engineering and Basic Computer Concepts and Programming.

INET 2007 Test Centres

The All India Online Entrance Test will be held in the following cities Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Calicut, Cochin & Madurai.

The examination authorities/institute reserves the right to delete any of the above cities from the list of test centers at a later stage without assigning any reason. Request for change of examination center, once allotted, will not be entertained.

Admit Card

Admit Cards will be generated from INET2007 website to all eligible candidates whose completed Application Forms have been received either online or by post on or before
23rd April 2007. The payment advice form generated from the website, duly signed, attached photograph, along with DD should also reach on time by post. Candidates have to log on to the system to download the Admit card and the date of the availability of admit card will be notified on website.

The Admit Card will contain the Name, Address, Roll Number, Application Number, Photograph and Signature of the candidate, Entrance Test Date and Timings and Name and Venue/Address of the examination center.

Fee Structure

The entire course fee for the MS-IT program is Rs. 1, 50,000/-. Rs. 37,500/- is payable every six months. A caution deposit of Rs. 5,000 and Medical Coverage charges of Rs. 1,000 for the whole course has to be paid as extra. The course fee does not cover other expenditure such as course materials or boarding, lodging, transport expenses and placement expenses, if required.

The students selected after interview will have to pay a non-refundable advance fee of Rs.15, 000/- to confirm their seats, on the day of the interview. This amount will be adjusted against the first installment of fees, payable on joining along with the caution deposit and medical coverage.

Boarding And Lodging

The institute will provide assistance to get boarding and lodging for all its students in the neighborhood. The institute strongly recommends students to use the residential accommodation of Institute, as it will help them to use the library and computing services for their studies and project work to be continued at any time of the day.

Educational Loans

Banks provide educational loans to the students for pursuing professional studies. Students desirous of availing such loans from financial institutions may approach the banks directly for further details. Any assistance required from the Institute by way of bona-fide certificates etc would be made available for the purpose.

Declaration of All India Entrance Test Result

The result of INET2007 will be declared on
20 June 2007 at the institute website (

www.iiitmk.ac.in
). Separate call letters will be sent to the short-listed candidates for interviews.

GATE/CAT Score Holders

Candidates with valid GATE/CAT score having more than 80 percentile score (or above 300 marks) will be exempted from INET2007. However they have to submit the application form online along with the application fee. A copy of the GATE/CAT score sheet should be shown at the time of the interview.

Selection Interviews

The selection process ensures that the students finally selected are mature and motivated to complete this demanding postgraduate programme. Candidates short-listed based on their performance in the All India Entrance Test will be called for Interview on
7 July 2007.

The printout of the on-line application, payment advice form (generated from the website) duly signed with photograph and DD should be sent to the below address given. There is a provision for offline submission, for that forms may be downloaded from the website, duly filled and sent along with the application fee to the below address.

Application Fee

The Fee for online application is Rs.1000/- and Offline application fee is Rs 1250/-. A Demand Draft for the required amount must be drawn in favor of Director, IIITM-K payable at Trivandrum and shall be sent to the above-mentioned address. Candidates who have submitted the application form online should send the Payment Advice form generated from the system after submission of application form along with the DD.

Section 1

Aptitude Test- (50 Questions)

Patterned after Combined Admission Test for MBA or GMAT: Quantitative Ability/Problem Solving Ability (High School Mathematics); Reasoning Ability (Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning and Mathematical Reasoning) ; Verbal Ability (Vocabulary and Grammar) and Reading Comprehension.
