Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) invites application for admission to the following programmes:

  1. M.Sc.(Economics): This is a two year programme commencing August 2006. Eligibility: Minimum Qualification: B.A/B.Sc in Economics/B.Com /B.Stat/B.Sc(Physics or Mathematics)/B.Tech./B.E with at least a second division for Economics discipline and first division for other discipline. The applicant must have studied Mathematics at the higher secondary level.
  2. M.Phil./Ph.D.( Development Studies): These are interdisciplinary programmes commencingAugust 2006. The duration of M.Phil programme is two years and that of Ph.D programmme is four years.

Eligibility: minimum Qualification: M.A/M.Sc in Economics/ M.stat./ M.Sc (Physics, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences or Operation Research)/ M.B.A./M.Tech./M.E./B.Tech./B.E with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% marks for other discipline. The applicant must have studied Mathematics at the Higher Secondary level.

Stipend: M.Phil./Ph.D. students receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 8000/- in the first two years. Those students who fulfill the terms and conditions for Ph.D. registration would receive a monthly stipend pf Rs. 9000/- after Ph.D registration in the third year.

Selection Procedure: Candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in a written test and an interview. The written test emphasizes general aptitude, analytical ability and Mathematical skills. The test will be held on May 07, 2006 at the following centres: Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Guwahati, Bangalore, Bhopal, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram. The test venue will be notified in the call letter. Based on the performance in the written test, short listed candidates will be called for an interview at IGIDR around the first week of July 2006. Second class return rail fare by the shortest route from the place of residence will be paid to the candidates interviewed. The decision of the selection committee will be final.

How to Apply: Application forms and prospectus may be purchased from the Institute by paying cash on working days or via post by sending a bank draft of Rs.200 (non-refundable) payable to t Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) at Mumbai to the Admissions Office, IGIDR, Gen. A.K.Vaidya Marg, Gorgoan(East), Mumbai-400065
(E-mail: soffice@igidr.ac.in). Payment in any other form will not be accepted. The request for the application form in plain paper, along with the candidate’s name, address, date of birth, sex, academic qualification, choice of test centre must reach IGIDR by March 3, 2006. The last date for receiving the completed application form is March 17, 2006.

and the completed form returned along with the application fee by March 17, 2006.

Reservation: Reservation for SC/ST will be as per rules prescribed by all UGC for the Central Universities. SC/ST applicants need not submit any application fee but required to enclose a copy of the Caste Certificate along with their request for application form. Those SC/ST applicants submitting forms downloaded form the website are required to attach a copy of the Caste Certificate.
