Programmes

M. Tech: An advanced course-driven, two year programme with opportunities for project work in the final semester.

M. Phil (Computational Linguistics only)/MS by Research: A research driven masters programme open to students with an advanced background in relevant areas. A research thesis is central to this programme. Expected duration is 2 years.

PG Diploma in Computational Linguistics: This is a 1-year programme that gives students an opportunity to learn the basics of the subject and an experience in developing linguistic resources for natural language processing.

Ph. D: The programme requires course work and clearing of breadth and depth qualifiers followed by thesis work. Approximate duration of this programme is 3 to 5 years.

Admission Procedure

Admission to PG programmes will be on the basis of the performance in the Post-Graduate Entrance Examination (PGEE 2007) and an interview to be held at Hyderabad. However, exceptional candidates can be called directly for the interview on the basis of their applications for Ph. D. or MS by Research programmes.

How to Apply

All Applications should be made through the Post-Graduate Admissions Postal. Applicants can apply for one or more programmes in the same form by indicating choices. The application fee is Rs.800/- for one programme and Rs.50/- extra for each additional programme applied for. Application fee in the form of a demand draft drawn in favor of IIIT, Hyderabad must reach the Chairman, PG Admissions on or before March 31, 2007.

Note: Application will be considered valid only after the receipt of application fee.

Post Graduate Entrance Examination (PGEE 2007)

An all-India examination will be conducted on
May 20, 2007 (Sunday). The examination will be held in Hyderabad and in a number of major cities in the country depending on the number of applicants from each region. The entrance examination will consist of two papers. Paper 1 will test the general aptitude of the candidates and will consist of objective questions in Mathematics, Programming, and Logical Reasoning. Paper II is the Subject area Paper, which will test the candidate’s domain knowledge.

Course Fees & Financial Aid

The tuition fee for all post-graduate programmes is Rs.50, 000/- per semester. Full financial support including tuition and stipend is available for MS by Research and Ph. D. students in the form of teaching or research assistantships. We expect to provide financial assistance to all students during their research work. Partial financial support, in the form of teaching assistantships, is available for the M. Tech students during their second year. This will be based on their academic performance. Financial support is available for all students admitted to the M. Tech, M. Phil & PG Diploma program in Computational Linguistics and for Gate qualified students in certain other specializations.

Research Exchange Programme

Brilliant young students are invited to apply for the Research Exchange Ph. D. Programme at the institute. Students admitted to this programme will spend equal time shared between IIT, Hyderabad and a partner research group at a world-class University. Financial support is guaranteed at both ends. This Programme, involving several students is already operative with selected research groups at CMU, UPenn, University of IIIinois etc. For admission into this programme, applicants to the Ph. D. programme of the institute need to select the Research Exchange option on the portal.

BE/B. Tech in Engg. (Any branch including CS / ECE / EE / Civil / M. Tech./Inst./Biotech.) or B.Arch. or Master’s degree in Science / Maths / Programming or MCA with BSc. (Maths) or MSc. (CS/Maths).

  • MS by Research & Ph. D.Nine Programmes

Eligibility

All as above and ME / M. Tech in Engg. or Master’s degree in Maths / Science or MCA or MA / M. Phil in Linguistics all Languages.

  • 4 yr. Post BSc. Dual Degree(B. Tech CSE and MS by Research in Computational Natural Sciences)

Eligibility

BSc. (PCM) with Honour’s (Major) in Physics / Chemistry.
