Applications Invited for Postgraduate Diploma Course in Print Journalism

MASCOM (Manorama School of Communication) invites applications for its sixth one-year Postgraduate Diploma Course in Print Journalism. Requests for the Prospectus and Application Form should be accompanied by a demand draft of Rs.500/- in favour of MASCOW, payable at Kottaya. The deadline for receiving complete application is
May 5, 2007. The course will begin in July 2007, and in May 2008.

Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and those awaiting degree results may apply. Selection is based on an entrance examination to be held at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, various centres in Kerala and Dubai (UAE) on
May 26, 2007, and an interview at MASCOM in Kottayam at the end of June 2007.

MASCOM was launched on
August 17, 2002, by the 119-year-old Malayala Manorama group. It has since been widely acknowledged as a centre of excellence for journalism training in India. The course introduces students to state-of-the-art journalism through meticulously designed training modules that ensure the students receive a well-rounded education in journalism and current events.

During the course the students will dissect and analyse news, bring out about 25 issues of their weekly lab newspaper, leading academic, political and media personalities. They will acquire advanced skills in reporting, editing, headline writing, taking photographs, cropping and sizing photographs, writing captions, speedwriting and computer software. They are also exposed to the state-of-the-art technology and communication systems employed at Malayala Manorama. The students are provided with personal computers with 24 hour dedicated Interned connectivity and a telephone with STD facility for newsgathering.

MASCOM’s in-house instructors, both Indian and from abroad, are experienced journalist-teachers. Assisting the core faculty is a panel of acknowledged experts in their chosen fields

All MASCOM graduates are working in various capacities in national and regional media houses across the country.

MASCOM will help of instruction at MASCOM is English, but students are free to choose between English and Malayalam streams for specialization. For students aspiring to a career in English or Malayalam Journalism, MASCOM training will give them a head start in the profession.
