Biography of Lakshadweep Governor – B V Selvaraj Indian Governor
The ongoing governor of Lakshadeep B V Selvaraj has also served the Indian Administrative Services.
Shri B V Selvaraj, IAS was appointed the Administrator of Union Territory of Lakshadweep by the President of India. Under clause (1) of Article 239 of the Constitution of India, his position effected from 22nd December 2006.
Honorable Administrator is considered as the Head of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. B V Selvaraj also holds the Chairmanship of Lakshadweep Development Corporation (a U.T. Administration public sector undertaking) and SPORTS (Society for Promotion of Recreational Tourism and Sports).
He operates ex-officio as the Inspector General of Lakshadweep Police.
Shri B.V.Selvaraj has also served as an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (AGMU-1981).
With this status he has served in various capacities in the State of Mizoram, National Capital Territory of Delhi, Union Territories of Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, as Collector-cum-District Magistrate, Commissioner and Secretary to Government, Development Commissioner, Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner, Chief Electoral Officer, Resident Commissioner etc.
He has also worked, in addition as the Chairman & Managing Director of several public sector Corporations, Central deputation in Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development and also worked as the Registrar of Pondicherry Central University.
B V Selvaraj has done his graduation in Science with Honours from Ranchi University and after that he did his Post Graduation from Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur.
At the moment he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Management Science.
This creative writer and poet, has wrote many articles and booklets relating to public administration, tourism, industry, rural development, general management etc. He also wrote two volumes of poetry, namely, ‘Puducheria’ (1997) and ‘Hi-Rum-Cherry’ (2003).
The third volume of collection of poems “Unbound: Conscience Keeping in Verse” is due for publication shortly.
In an interview with Sub Editor, Lakshadweep Times, on the eve of the second anniversary of that tragic day of worst human disaster, Tsunami, Shri B V Selvaraj said that ‘ As 26th December happens to be the second anniversary of Tsunami of the Indian Ocean and the biggest Tsunami ever witnessed by the humanity…..I remember the hardships and devastation our coastal and island territories had to face two years back….I am grateful for the warm and affectionate reception accorded to me by the people and officers of Lakshadweep…..the awareness level seem to be very high; the dedication and competence of officer and staff seems to be extraordinary. ….I pray to the Almighty for wisdom and energy to do what is best for the territory and its people.
‘ Selvaraj has also worked as Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner in Pondichery following the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 26th December, 2004.
