BioAsia Meet in Hyderabad from Jan 28th

The three – day tenth edition of the annual bio – technology and life sciences meet — BioAsia — will kick off in Hyderabad from January 28th, with Spain as the Country Partner and Victoria ( Australia ) as the International State Partner.

Over 2,000 delegates from India and 49 countries are expected to participate in the event, which could see inking of bi – lateral MoUs involving economic, scientific and technological collaborations.

The theme of the event is biologics and bio – similars. “Discussions will be focussed on drug discovery, monoclonal antibodies, re – generative medicine and intellectual property rights,” K. Pradeep Chandra, AP Commissioner for Industries and Commerce Department, told mediapersons here today.

A parallel event — AgBioAsia 2013 — is also being held, focussing on agricultural bio – technology and food technology, in co – ordination with the International Crops Research Institute for Semi Arid Tropics ( Icrisat ).

Biologics has been gaining ground, with 30 per cent of the product pipeline of large pharma companies being biologics. This market is estimated to grow to $ 255 billion by 2015.

A significant feature of the event is the regulators meet, which will be participated by health regulatory agencies from the US, UK, South Africa, Czech Republic, Sweden, Malaysia, and other countries. “This will help Indian companies interested in expanding their business operations and establishing footprints in this region,” Shakthi Nagappan, CEO, BioAsia, said.

Dr P.V. Appaji, Director – General of Pharma Export Council of India, said the event will boost India’s efforts to reach a pharmaceutical export target of $ 25 billion by 2014 – 15 from the current level of $13.5 billion.

The event will also have a CEO conclave, international buyer-seller meet with about 40 prospective global buyers, Indo – Victorian and Indo – Spanish meetings, and an international trade show focussing on medical devices and analytical equipment.
