Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme on LPG Launched in 18 Districts of India
The Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, M. Veerappa Moily launched the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG ( DBTL ) Scheme in 18 districts on 1st June, 2013 at Tumkur near Bangalore. The scheme was also flagged off by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Kiran Kumar Reddy.
DBTL Scheme became operational in 18 districts of India. Now, the subsidy on LPG cylinders in the districts would be provided directly to consumers in their Aadhar linked bank accounts. More than 67 lakh LPG consumers in 18 districts of India will enjoy the benefits of DBTL Scheme.
The LPG consumers, who have not linked their Aadhaar number to LPG consumer number, will get a grace period of three month from the date of launch of this scheme. During the tenure, these consumers will get the LPG cylinders at subsidized rate, up to the cap of 9 cylinders.
After end of the grace period 1st September, 2013, LPG cylinders will be sold to all domestic LPG consumers at market price. However, the subsidy will be transferred to only those who have linked Aadhaar number to LPG consumer number and Bank account.
Subsidy for LPG in India
The Minister said the government would take a policy decision on the payment of subsidy on food grains too directly to the people through their Aadhar – linked bank account.
Mr. Jacob said computerisation of the public distribution system was fast progressing and the government was preparing an Aadhar-based biometric system to ensure prompt distribution of ration to the eligible people.
He said the National Food Security Act would be a landmark achievement in the democratic system. The Centre has assured that it would address the concerns raised by the State government on the Food Security Act at its execution level, he added.
All LPG consumers are advised to immediately do the following to avail of subsidy in their bank accounts :
- Get an Aadhaar number if they don’t have one at Aadhaar enrollment centers.
- Open a bank account with Aadhaar number if they do not have one by going to a bank branch with Aadhaar number. ( OR )
- If they already a bank account then link their Aadhaar number with their bank account by visiting their branch or through a request form available with LPG distributors and deposit it in the drop boxes placed at LPG distributors premises.
- Provide Aadhaar numbers to LPG distributors for linking with LPG consumer number.
The 18 districts covered under the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG ( DBTL ) Scheme are :
- East Godavari
- Ranga Reddy
- North Goa
- SBS Nagar / Nawanshahar
- East Nimar ( Khandwa )
