Microsoft is Keen to Cash in on Mobile Devices

Days after launching its Windows Server 2012, the first cloud – based server, Microsoft has set its eyes on tapping the “unbounded opportunity’’ offered by mobile devices and tablets.

“There is a vast opportunity of 400+ million devices that surpass the Android platform and iPhones. These applications are not standalone and they are all connected,” Microsoft Server and Tools Business president Satya Nadella said.

Mr. Satya, informed about the IT giant’s plans to deploy server software on the Windows Azure platform and capitalise on the applications that underpinned the significant growth in the consumption of data on the move.

Great Capabilities

Consumers were buying applications as they had “Great Capabilities” offering security, auditability and management and, at the same time, allowing the end – users to access them with ease. Since there were difficulties in building applications to mobile devices that work at different speeds, Microsoft was looking at reinventing the back – end, figuring out applications that work on 2G, 3G and other networks.

“We are into creating a simulation of the application to see how it behaves with different sets of devices including the low end ones,” he said.

Package and sell

Though Google and Amazon come close to Microsoft in offering similar set of services, they were not in a position to sell the applications.

“We can package the set of applications, and offer the same expertise through out Windows applications which Google or Amazon cannot,”.
