National Awards for Chennai Musicians
In what seems like a spillover of Margazhi cheer, three artistes from Chennai have bagged Sangeet Natak Akademi’s ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar’ award for 2011 in music.
According to recent notifications regarding the award, Carnatic vocalist Abhishek Raghuram, veena artiste Punya Srinivas and violinist H.N. Bhaskar are among those who will receive the national honour in the category of music.
Bharatanatyam artiste, Meenakshi Srinivasan, also from Chennai, is among the dancers being honoured with the title.
“A national honour like this is highly motivating, but it is also a big responsibility. As a student of music, I feel it is an ocean and there is just so much to learn, it is not exhaustive,” says Abhishek Raghuram. The 27 – year – old says : “ I want to engage with music and sharpen performance skills to ensure that a wider audience relates to this art form.”
Punya Srinivas, who works with different genres, says she wants to focus on classical music.
“I also want to work on original music and albums, collaborating with other musicians,” says the veena artiste, on receiving, what she calls, her first big award.
Application Form Submission 16 Dec 2020 to 16 Jan 2021.
