London Olympics Games Introduction

The busiest day of the Games will see 32 gold medals dished out with the likes of Mo Farah, Tom Daley and Caster Semenya all in the reckoning.

London Olympics Major Activities ( Sporting Events )

  • Things get off to an early start with the 9.30 A.M. final in the K1 200m canoe sprint at Eton Dorney, for which 28 – year – old British trainee accountant Ed McKeever is the favourite.
  • In boxing, Briton’s Luke Campbell and Thomas Stalker will target medals for bantamweight and light – welterweight at the ExCeL Centre.
  • With both Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake on their side, Jamaica could probably still field a shot – putter in one of the remaining slots and take the gold.
  • Mo Farah could add to GB’s medal tally in the 5,000m final in the Olympic Stadium which happens before a flurry of gold – medal events : the women’s 4x400m, the women’s 800m final ( which will see South Africa’s Caster Semenya take on Russian Mariya Savinova ) and then the blue riband relay event, the men’s 4x100m final at 9.00 P.M.
  • The men’s football final takes place at 3.00 P.M. at Wembley Stadium while GB will be rooting for poster – boy Tom Daley in the diving 10m platform at the Aquatics Centre after his disappointment in the men’s synchronised event on Day Three.

London Olympics Action in India  ( Day 15 )

  • It’s Day 15 of the London Olympics and we are at the fag – end of the Games, which has been a great success. And not to forget, it’s been India’s best show at any Olympic Games, except in hockey, which was extremely disappointing.
  • India’s Amit Kumar failed to make an impression as he missed out on a shot at the Bronze medal in the men’s 55 kg freestyle Wrestling event.
  • Both Narsingh Yadav in the 74 – kg freestyle and Amit Kumar in the 55 – kg freestyle have got a bye in their first rounds. Narsingh Yadav’s bout is around 18:10 Indian Time. Amit Kumar’s bout time is yet not in the schedule.

London Olympics Games Introduction

Medals are on offer in nine different sports on Friday and big crowds are once again expected to flock to venues in the Olympic Park and beyond to watch the drama unfold.

London Olympics Major Activities

  • Another huge turnout is expected at Hyde Park to watch the men’s 10km Marathon, with Germany’s Thomas Lurz, Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia and Greece’s Spyridon Gianniotis among the leading contenders to win gold in the Serpentine.
  • The Netherlands and Argentina go for gold in the women’s Hockey final, with the Dutch team defending their title and Argentina going for a golden treble, as they hold the World and Champions Trophy crowns.
  • Six gold medals will be up for grabs on the penultimate evening of Athletics in the Olympic Stadium.
  • The women’s 4 x 100m Relay final is expected to be a showdown between the USA and Jamaica, while the women’s Hammer Throw final also takes place on Day 14 of the Games.
  • The Bahamas and the USA were the fastest qualifiers after being given the same time of 2:58.87 in heat two, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago and Great Britain who were also given the same time of 3:00.38 in heat one.
  • Great Britain’s world champion Sarah Stevenson will go for gold in the women’s -67kg Taekwondo at ExCeL while medals are also up for grabs in the the men’s – 80kg categories.

London Olympics Action in India ( Day 14 )

  • With only three days left in the London Olympics, wrestlers Amit Kumar and Narsingh Yadav get down to business on Friday.
  • Narsingh received a bye in the 74kg category qualifications and is set to take on Canada’s Matthew Gentry at 06:10 P.M. in the 1/8 final.
  • Compatriot Amit too received a bye in the 55kg category qualification round and will take on the winner of the clash between Iran’s Hassan Rahimi and Mongolia’s Naranbaatar Bayaraa in the 1/8 final.

London Olympics Games Introduction

It’s time for Britain’s first qualifying athlete to take to the water as Keri – Anne Payne competes in the 10km swimming event in Hyde Park as favourite while Usain Bolt defends his 200m crown.

Team GB poster – girl Keri – Anne Payne was the first host nation athlete to qualify for the Olympics and her long journey will come to a conclusion today in the Serpentine boating lake at Hyde Park. Payne won silver in the women’s 10km swim in Beijing and will start the race in London as favourite for gold after victory in last year’s world championships.

In the Olympic Stadium, Usain Bolt will have to beat the in – form Yohan Blake, his Jamaican countryman, if he wants to defend his 200m crown from Beijing, while the flamboyant Phillips Idowu – injury permitting – will leap for the podium in the men’s triple jump despite a season blighted by poor form and injury.

There are high hopes for GB’s Nicola Adams in the women’s flyweight boxing at the ExCeL Centre – while in the lightweight division Ireland have their only gold medal prospect in Katie Taylor. GB’s Laura Bechtolshiemer is a medal hope in the equestrian individual dressage at Greenwich Park and there’s the small matter of the women’s football final at Wembley Stadium.

Today’s medal sports : Athletics, canoe sprint, swimming, equestrian, sailing, boxing, wrestling, diving, football, beach volleyball, taekwondo, water polo.

London Olympics Action in India ( Day 10 )

  • Mary Kom had to take a Bronze, a brilliant achievement in itself, after she lost her semifinal bout against Nicola Adams.
  • Mary later said that the Briton was stronger in the opening two rounds and though she apologised for not doing better, said she was happy at having a Bronze.
  • Tintu Luka came out earlier in the day and was third in the 800m Heats.
  • Luka clocked 2:01.75 secs to finish third in heat number two behind reigning world champion Mariya Savinova.
  • She will compete in the semi-final on Thursday night.

London Olympics Introduction

It’s a massive day in the Velodrome as Sir Chris Hoy looks to further build on his cycling immortality with a possible sixth Olympic gold medal.

London Olympics Major Activities ( Sporting events )

  • Hoy takes place in the track cycling keirin event ( he has a career record of 55 wins from 60 races ) on a day that also sees Victoria Pendleton face her Australian arch – rival Anna Meares in the women’s individual sprint, and Laura Trott go for glory in the exhausting combined omnium event.
  • Brothers Alistair and Jonathan Brownliee go head – to – head in the men’s triathlon in Hyde Park while Britain are favourites to win the equestrian dressage team final at Greenwich Park.
  • In the Olympic Stadium, watch out for 20 – year – old, Croydon – born Lawrence Okoye, who is taking part in the discus event two months before taking a place to read law at Oxford University.
  • GB’s Robbie Grabarz is also a medal hope in the high jump, while Australia’s Sally Pearson is favourite to beat defending champion Dawn Harper of the US in the women’s 100m hurdles.
  • With windsurfing axed from the Rio 2016 Games, Britain’s Nick Dempsey is hoping to grab a farewell medal at Weymouth and Portland but will face stiff competition from Dutchman Dorian van Rijsselberge.
  • The first of two synchronized swimming medals – the women’s duet event – is decided on Day 11 too.

Today’s medal sports : Triathlon, sailing, artistic gymnastics, synchronized swimming, table tennis, track cycling, wrestling, athletics, diving, weightlifting.

London Olympics Action in India ( Day 10 )

  • It was a mixed day as some Indian athletes crashed out while others managed to advance and prove their mettle in London.
  • Mary Kom was the main highlight of the day for India. She advanced to the semifinal in the 51kg category to assure India of a medal.
  • Mary’s jabs and punches were too much to handle for her Tunisian opponent as the Indian sealed the match 15 – 6.
  • It was not all good news from the shooting range though. Manavjit Singh Sandhu was out of contention for the Men’s Trap finals. Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput also failed to qualify for the 50m Rifle 3 Positions finals.
  • India’s Vikas Gowda became the seventh Indian to qualify for the finals of the track and field event.

London Olympics Introduction

The 2012 Summer Games in London are more than halfway over now, as we press into Day 10. The landscape for bigger team sports like women’s soccer and men’s basketball are starting to take shape, and it’ll be time to start handing out medals soon.

  • Jamaica’s Usain Bolt wins the men’s 100m final at the athletics event during the London 2012 Olympic Games on August 5, 2012 in London.
  • Karolina Michalczuk (L) of Poland defends against Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte (R) of India during the women’s Flyweight boxing round of 16 of the 2012 London Olympic Games at the Excel Arena August 5, 2012 in London. Mery Kom won the bout to enter the quarter-final against Czech Republic’s Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka during the women’s doubles gold medal match of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

London Olympics Action in India ( Day 10 )

  • M.C. Mary Kom, India’s medal hope in Olympic women’s boxing, put on a valiant display as she downed a bigger Polish opponent Karolina Michalczuk to enter the quarterfinals of the 51 kg category here Sunday.
  • Olympics Hockey : India crushed 1-4 by South Korea.
  • Olympic Shooting : Sandhu 25th in trap, may miss final cut.

London Olympics Games Introduction

The 2012 London Olympic Games are already halfway over, but there is still much yet to be decided.

Day 8 will feature men’s soccer quarterfinals, Team USA basketball, Carmelita Jeter running her heart out on the second day of track and field, and more.

London Olympics Major Activities ( Sporting events )

Team GB golden girl Jessica Ennis enters the second and final day of the women’s heptathlon with the weight of a nation on her shoulders while 10,000m runner Mo Farah should also be in the athletics mix for the home nation in the Olympic Stadium.

Double amputee Oscar Pretorius – the South Africa ‘Blade Runner’ – makes history in the 400m heats while the fastest man in the world, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, makes his first appearance at London 2012 in the 100m heats.

Bolt’s countryman and main rival Yohan Blake will also be in action, as will Justin Gatlin and Asafa Powell.

If things go according to plan for Team GB, there could be a deluge of medals on Day Eight : Helen Jenkins one of the favourites to win the women’s triathlon in Hyde Park, the women’s pursuit track cycling team are in action in the Velodrome while at Eton Dorney four medal events include the men’s lightweight double skulls and the men’s four.

World number one trampoline gymnast Kat Driscoll – who used to work full time in a bank until two years ago – is up against the agile Chinese and Russian bouncers at the North Greenwich Arena.

London Olympics How Indians fared on day 8

  • On a day when Vijay Kumar won India its second individual Silver medal at the Olympics in 100 years, Saina Nehwal lost out on a chance to get India a Gold.
  • Vijay Kumar won his first Silver medal and India’s second medal in the London 2012 Olympics in the 25 metres Rapid Fire Pistol event.
  • It was a bad day for Saina Nehwal as she lost her semi – final match against China’s Wang Yihan and now has to contend for the bronze medal against another Chinese Xin Wang.
  • Om Prakash failed to impress as he was eliminated in the shot put event bringing India’s challenge to an end in one more event.
  • India’s hockey woes continued as they lost 2 – 5 to Germany which shuts them out of a last four berth.
