Winter Festival is held every year in the month of December in Mount Abu. Mount Abu known as the summer capital of Rajasthan is the only hill station in the entire North West India. It is attributed as “Oasis in Rajasthan”.

Situated on the highest peak of the Aravali range of mountains, Mount Abu is covered with lush green forests and splendid waterfalls.

Every year more then three million national and international tourists visit mount abu enjoying its scenic beauty, rich flora & fauna as well as the marble art of Delwara Jain temples. This three – day colorful festival is organized by the Rajasthan Tourism and Municipal Board of Mt. Abu.

History of the Winter Festival in Mount Abu, Rajasthan. The Winter Festival is a result of the joint initiative taken by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and the Municipal Board of Tamil Nadu to attract tourists as well as to give the citizens a break from the monotony of everyday existence.

Celebrations :

The winter festival of Mount Abu is a three day long festival that glorifies the beauty and warm heart of this hill station. The celebrations generally start from the RTDC hotel named Shikhar and proceed further through the hill.

Three main ingredients of the Festival that have given it a world platform today are the hospitality of the people, their colorful culture and exotic location. The processions ultimately end at the nakki lake chowk. Followed by the magnanimous procession there are folk songs and dances performed by troupes coming from Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat and other nearby states and places.

The festival acts as an ode to the rich culture and tradition of Rajasthan. It continues for three days. It offers a lot of room for fun and frolic in the midst of a picturesque location. On visiting the fair, you will also get to know a lot about the warmth and hospitality of the land. The joyous and cheerful ambiance prevalent in the place during the festival will be a great experience as well.

Mount Abu during the winter festival also features a number of other attractions. The variety of lovely performances put up by a number of artists makes it a great show. The classical and folk singers display their talent and mesmerize the visitors. You will also enjoy the dance performances that include variety of Daph, Ghoomar and Gair. These are mainly the various forms of folk dances.

However, cultural programs are not the only attraction of the Winter Festival in Mount Abu. It also features various forms of sports events. The visit to the festival will allow you to enjoy the excitement of rowing competitions. In fact, a number of cricket matches are also organized.

Another great attraction of the festival is the floating of large number of lamps on the Nakki Lake. This particular practice is known as Deepdaan. The very sight of numerous lighted lamps floating in the river will be a treat to the eye. The festival also features a number of processions. These processions are mainly organized by the local authorities. These processions hold great importance as they mark the inauguration of the winter festival. These procession starts off from Hotel Shikhar of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and ends at Nakki Lake Chowk. A large number of people clad in colorful clothes take part in this festival. Tourists truly enjoy seeing this extravagant procession proceed.

Along with these cultural activities water sports also form part of the festivities. Rowing competitions are held on the lake. Cricket matches are organized.The grand finale of the festival is made brighter by a display of dazzling fireworks on three days.

How to Reach :
By Air : The nearest airport to Mount Abu is Udaipur, 185 km away. Tourists can easily opt for various road transport facilities available at the airport for reaching Mount Abu. A number of domestic airlines have their scheduled flight to Udaipur, which connect the city to the major cities in the country.

By Road : Mount Abu is well – connected by roads. It is well connected to major cities like Jodhpur and Delhi. You can also travel by private car/taxi.

By Train : The railway station at Abu Road is a two-hour drive from Mount Abu and is well – connected to the rest of the country through a number of trains.
