Okram Ibobi Singh is the ongoing Chief Minister of the Indian State, Manipur.

Okram Ibobi is the second person from Thoubal district, who as the current Chief Minister of Manipur was sworn in to hold the top post after Md Alimuddin.

Okram Ibobi Singh was born on July 19, 1948 to Okram Angoubi and Lukamani Devi at Thoubal Athokpam ward no 7. Okram Ibobi Singh is married to Landhoni Devi and the couple has one son and two daughters. By profession Okram Ibobi Singh is a Social Worker.

Ibobi started his political career in 1984 – 85, as an Independent candidate in Khangabok Assembly Constituency. Okram Ibobi Singh won the election and subsequently joined the Congress.

After that Okram Ibobi Singh was appointed as the Chairman of the Manipur State Khadi and Village Industries Board till 1988. During the tenure of RK Jaychandra ministry, Okram Ibobi Singh was attributed the secretary ship of the Congress Legislative Party.

In the general elections of 1990, this graduate in arts, Ibobi was re – elected from the constituency on Congress ticket. For the first time, in the Congress led by R.K Dorendro, Okram Ibobi Singh was inducted as Minister – in – charge of Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development.

In the Rishang Keishing ministry, Okram Ibobi Singh was also Minister – in – charge of Industries for the period of 1994 – 95. Ibobi, a staunch supporter of Congress ideology, was dynamically involved in party association matters.

In 1995 – 96 by AICC, Okram Ibobi Singh was selected as the vice president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee. In the year 1997, Okram Ibobi Singh held the post in the Congress organizational polls held.

On December 10, 1999, when Okram Ibobi Singh was appointed as the president of MPCC (I) the new Chief Minister’s Political Career took its off stages.

Okram Ibobi Singh was again re – elected to the post, which he holds till now. In the recent election, Ibobi defeated FPM’s L Jatra by 2330 votes securing 12897 votes.
