Omar Abdullah is an eminent Indian Politician and the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

Omar Abdullah was born on 10th of March in the year 1970. Omar Abdullah hails from Kashmir’s first family that is the Abdullah family.

Omar Abdullah is the son of Dr. Farooq Abdullah who is a renowned politician of Kashmir. At present Omar Abdullah is the eleventh and the Youngest Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah represents the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference as well.

Omar Abdullah is the grandson of Sheikh Abdullah, who was at one point the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. His mother Mollie is a British National.

Omar Abdullah did his schooling from the Burn Hall School in Srinagar and the Lawrence School in Sanawar.

Omar Abdullah completed his Bachelors degree in commerce from Sydenham College in Mumbai and did his MBA from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. Omar Abdullah is married to Payal Singh and has two sons Zahir and Zamir.

Omar Abdullah was elected to the twelfth Lok Sabha in the year 1998. During that time Omar Abdullah was a member in the ministry of tourism and at the age of twenty nine years Omar Abdullah was the youngest minister.

In the thirteenth Lok Sabha Omar Abdullah was re – elected and on the 13th October 1999, Omar Abdullah took oath as the Union Minister of the State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Omar Abdullah became the Youngest Union Minister on 22nd of July 2001 when Omar Abdullah was made the Union minister of State for External Affairs under Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s NDA government.

But Omar Abdullah resigned from the post in the next year on 23rd of December. Omar Abdullah replaced his father Farooq Abdullah as the president of the National Conference on 23rd June, 2002.

Thereafter in the year 2006 Omar Abdullah was re – elected as the President of the party for the second term.

In the Kashmir Election of 2008 the National Conference won with maximum number of seats and formed a coalition government of the Congress Party and was, thus, sworn as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on the fifth of January 2009.
