Rajavarothiam Sampanthan is a veteran Sri Lankan Tamil politician and current leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and former general secretary of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF).

Sampanthan was elected to represent Trincomalee for the TULF in the Sri Lankan Parliament in the historic July 1977 general election.

Rajavarothiam Sampanthan and all other TULF MPs walked out of Parliament in August 1983 after refusing to swear an oath unconditionally renouncing support for a separate state in accordance with the Sixth Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka.

Sampanthan has represented the Trincomalee multi-member electoral district for the TNA in the Parliament since December 2001.
