Indian Navy Sailors (Direct Entry) - Examination (Mer)Only unmarried male Indian citizens are eligible for recruitment as Sailors in Indian Navy. The examination for recruitment is held twice a year in the months of April/ May and December for courses commencing in August and February (next year) respectively. Age limit for Indian Navy Sailors (Direct Entry):Between 17 to 20 years of age at the time of enrolment. Minimum Educational Qualification for Indian Navy Sailors (Direct Entry):Matriculation or equivalent with 55 per cent or above marks with Science and Maths. OR 10 + 2 or equivalent examination with 50% aggregate marks in Maths and Physics. Preference given to candidates with working knowledge of computers. Plan of Examination:General Note about Examination Scheme: The Recruitment will be done directly by the Navy. Eligible short listed candidates will be sent call-up letters, giving date, time and place for Written Test and Physical Fitness Test. PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST for Indian Navy Sailors (Direct Entry) - Examination (Mer):Qualifying in this Test is mandatory for enrolment. The standard of PFT is (i) One Mile (1.6 km) run to be completed in 7 minutes. (ii) 20 sit ups. (iii} 10 push ups. WRITTEN TEST for Indian Navy Sailors (Direct Entry) - Examination (Mer):The Written Test will have four sections: I. English II. Science III. Maths and IV. GK. The question paper will be bilingual and objective type and of 1 hour duration. The results will be announced on the same day. Those who qualify will undergo PFT and Medical Examination. Those who are declared medically fit would be considered fully qualified and those who are declared temporary unfit will be required to appear for Review Medical on the stipulated date. Performance in Written Examination, Computer Knowledge, Sports and NCC will be taken into consideration for the final selection. After enrolment candidates will be sent on Railway Warrant to Chilka{Orissa) for initial training of 24 weeks. FOR SPORTSMEN: Outstanding sportsmen who have participated at National/State Level will have to qualify in the Sports trials in addition to written exam, PFT and Medical.
