Duration of  Course

  • The Course of studies leading to the award of degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery ( MBBS ) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences shall last for a minimum of five and a half academic years including one year’s compulsory internship.

Eligibility

  • Candidate Should have attained or will attain the age of 17 ( Seventeen ) years as on 31st December, 2016.
  • Candidates born on or after 2nd January, 2000 are NOT eligible to apply.
  • Candidate should have passed the 12thClass under the 10+2 Scheme/ Senior School Certificate Examination (CBSE) or Intermediate Science ( ISc ) or an equivalent Examination of a recognized University/ Board of any Indian State with ENGLISH, PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY as subject.

Age Limit

  • Candidate should have attained or will attain the age of 17 (seventeen) years as on 31st of December, 2016.
  • Candidates born on or after 2nd January, 2000 are NOT eligible to apply.

Essential Qualifications

Candidate should have passed the 12thClass under the 10+2 Scheme / Senior School Certificate Examination ( CBSE ) or Intermediate Science ( ISc ) or an equivalent Examination of a recognized University / Board of any Indian State with ENGLISH, PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY as subject.

Candidates who have appeared or are appearing at the qualifying Examination with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as main subject and expect to pass the Examination with required percentage of marks are also eligible to apply and appear in the Competitive Entrance Examination. However, their candidature will be considered only if they provide documentary evidence of having passed the qualifying Examination with the required subjects and percentage of marks.

If the Institute has to consider an Examination of an Indian University or of a foreign / university to be equivalent to the 12th class under 10+2 scheme / Intermediate Science Examination, the candidates shall have to produce a certificate from the concerned Indian University / Association of the Indian Universities to the effect that the examination passed by him / her is considered by them to be equivalent to the 12th class under 10+2 scheme/Intermediate .

Minimum Marks

The minimum aggregate of the marks in ENGLISH, PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY obtained in the qualifying examination required for appearing in this examination are :

  • General and OBC candidates: 60%
  • SC / ST / OPH Candidates: 50%

Exam Pattern

The AIIMS MBBS 2016 Competitive Entrance Examination will have Computer Based Online Test ( CBT ). One paper consisting of 200 Objective Type ( Multiple Choice and Reason – Assertion type ) questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Knowledge.

 Language of AIIMS MBBS 2016 Question Paper

Automated Question paper will be provided either in English or in Hindi according to the choice of candidates. Applicants must choose / indicate in the application form whether he / she prefers to have the question paper in English or Hindi. This choice cannot be changed later at any stage.

AIIMS MBBS Online Registration

  • A candidate seeking admission to the Entrance Examination is required to fill up the Registration Form available online with the Prospectus on www.aiimsexams.org.
  • It will be the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that correct address in the Application Form is filled. The Institute will not be responsible for any loss in transit or for incorrect address given by the applicant in the Application Form.

AIIMS MBBS 2016 Registration Fee

  • General / OBC Category :   1000/- + Transaction Charges as applicable.
  • SC / ST Category :  800/- + Transaction Charges as applicable.
  • OPH Candidates is exempted from any Fee.
  • Requisite fess may be paid through Credit Card / Debit Card / Net Banking

Admit Cards

  • A downloadable Admit Card will be hosted for all the eligible candidates on website www.aiimsexams.org w.e.f. 2nd May, 2016. All the candidates must take a printout of the same. The admit card will not be sent through Postal System. No candidate will be admitted to the examination unless he / she holds a valid Admit Card.
  • No candidate will be allowed to enter the Examination Hall/Venue by personal appearance without a valid Admit Card in original. The admit card must bear the details of printout such as IP address etc.
  • Candidates are advised to preserve the Admit Card till allotment of seat in College/ Institute. Duplicate Admit Card will not be issued after the examination (i.e. original printout Not photocopy etc.).

AIIMS MBBS 2016 Seats Reservation

A. AIIMS New Delhi

This year 72 ( seventy two ) seats for Indian Nationals are available for admission to MBBS course. Out of these, 11 ( eleven ) seats are reserved for the Scheduled Castes, 5 ( five ) seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, 19 ( nineteen ) seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes and 37 ( thirty seven ) seats for General Category for Indian Nationals.

A 3% reservation for Orthopaedic Physically Handicapped [ OPH ] shall be provided on horizontal basis, in the seats available. The number of seats for Foreign Nationals shall be announced only after appropriate communication is received by AIIMS, New Delhi from the Government of India. Please await subsequent announcement at the AIIMS website www.aiimsexams.org.

B. Six other AIIMS Institutions

In the six new AIIMS ( viz : Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh, ) with intake of 100 students each, the reservation policy followed will be 7.5% ST, 15% SC and 27% OBC, for Indian Nationals. A 3% reservation for Orthopaedic Physically Handicapped shall be provided on horizontal basis, in the seats available.

Seat inter – convertibility :

If requisite number of suitable candidates is not available to fill the seats reserved for the Scheduled Castes, the same will be filled out of the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribes and vice versa. In case candidates do not qualify from the SC / ST categories, vacant seats will be filled by candidates from the general category. Similarly, in case the OBC seat remains vacant after calling all eligible OBC candidates then these seats shall be made available to the general category.

i. Criteria for Other Backward Clases ( Non – Creamy Layer ) [ OBC ] ( Common to AIIMS, New Delhi & Six other AIIMS ) :

Reservation for OBC ( Non – Creamy Layer ) shall be according to the rules of the Government of India. Applicants are required to ensure that he / she does not belong to the persons / sections ( Creamy Layer ) mentioned in Column 3 of the Schedule to the Government of India, Department of Personnel & Training O.M. No. 36012/22/93-Estt. ( SCT ) dated 08/09/93 which is modified vide OM No. 36033/3/2004 Estt. (Res.) dated 09/03/2004 or the latest notification of the Government of India (ie. Central list). A format is provided at the end of the Prospectus. Certificate to be produced during counseling should NOT be older than ONE Year.

ii. Criteria for Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe ( SC / ST ) ( Common to AIIMS, New Delhi & Six other AIIMS ) :

Reservation for SC / ST candidates will be according to the rules of Government of India. Applicants will be required to produce the necessary certificate in the format provided. During counseling the certificate as prescribed in M.H.A., O.M., No. 42/21/49-N.G.S. dated the 28.1.1952, as revised in Dept. of Per-& A.R. letter No. 36012/6/76-Est. (S.CT), dated the 29.10.1977, to be produced by candidate belonging to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe in support of his / her claim.

iii. Criteria for Orthopaedic Physically Handicapped ( OPH ) : ( Common to AIIMS New Delhi & Six other AIIMS Institutions )

The candidate must posses a valid document certifying his / her physical disability conforming to judgement of Supreme Court of India i.e.

  • With the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India vide letter no. 18018/2/2009-ME ( P-1 ) dated 17.02.2009 it has been decided that while providing reservation in admission to medical course in the first instance candidates with disability of lower limbs between 50% to 70% shall be considered and in case candidates are not available of such candidates in that category then the candidates with disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50% will also be considered.
  • The disability certificate should be certified by a duly constituted and authorized Medical Board of the State or Central Government Hospitals / Institutions.

AIIMS MBBS Selection Procedure 2016

Based on the result of the Competitive Entrance Examination, merit lists will be prepared as below :

(a) Common Merit list : Subject to the Govt. of India, DOPT. O.M.No.36011/1/98. Estt. (Res), Dated 1st July, 1998. It is clarified that only such SC / ST / OBC candidates who are selected on the same standard as applied to general candidates shall not be adjusted against reserved vacancies.

In other words, when a relaxed standard is applied in selecting an SC / ST / OBC candidates, for example in the age – limit, experience, qualification, permitted number of chances in written examination, extended zone of consideration larger than what is provided for General category candidates etc.

The SC / ST / OBC candidates are to be counted against reserved vacancies. Such candidates would be deemed as unavailable for consideration against the unreserved vacancies. Therefore the reserved candidate will be considered on General Seat only if no relaxation of the eligibility level ( i.e. % of marks ) and at cut off level of marks in MBBS entrance examination is given.

Thirty seven (37) candidates from the common merit list, eleven (11) candidates from the merit list of Scheduled Caste category and five ( 5 ) candidates from the merit list of Scheduled Tribe and 19 ( nineteen ) candidates from the merit list of Other Backward Classes category will be admitted including 3% reservation for orthopaedic physically handicapped on horizontal basis in the seats available.

The reservation will be 7 ½ % ST, 15% SC and 27% for OBC category. In case eleven (11) candidates from the Scheduled Caste or five (5) candidates from the Scheduled Tribe categories
and nineteen (19) candidates belonging to OBC are not available, then the number of candidates selected on the basis of merit for general seats shall be correspondingly increased so that the total number of candidates selected for the M.B.B.S. course remains seventy two (72). The remaining candidates will be kept on the waiting list in order of merit.

Inter se merit of two or more candidates in the same category obtaining equal marks in the competitive entrance examination will be determined in order of preference as under :

  • Candidates obtaining higher marks in Biology in the entrance examination.
  • Candidates obtaining higher marks in Chemistry in the entrance examination.
  • Candidates obtaining higher marks in Physics in the entrance examination.
  • Candidates older in age to be preferred. A similar procedure for selection will apply for the six new AIIMS where the number will be calculated for a total of 50 admissions for each.

AIIMS MBBS Exam Centre 2016

The examination may be held tentatively at 154 cities listed below. Applicants are required to indicate their 1st, 2nd & 3rd choice of city with due care and thought. The Examination Centre shall be allotted by AIIMS.

It may be noted that although AIIMS will make all efforts to ensure that the candidate is allotted a centre in the cities chosen by the applicant, due to circumstances such as lack of sufficient number of candidates, logistic, administrative and other reasons, an Examination Centre in another city may be allotted finally. Applicants are therefore required to be prepared to appear for the examination in the Examination Centre allotted to them.

The decision of AIIMS regarding allotment of centres shall be final. No further correspondence or request shall be entertained in such cases. A tentative list of cities where the Examination Centres are located are provided in the accompanying table. In addition, candidates are not permitted to change the shift allotted to them.

AIIMS Eligibility 2016

1. M.Sc. / M.Biotechnology :

The candidate must posses one of the following qualifications and have secured at least 60% marks for General / OBC candidates ( 55% marks in case of SC / ST candidates ) in aggregate in the qualifying examination :

  1. MBBS / BDS ( 55% for Gen / OBC & 50% for SC / ST Categories )
  2. B.V.Sc.
  3. B.Pharmacy
  4. Bachelor of Physiotherapy ( 4½ year course )
  5. B.Sc. degree of minimum three years duration in any subject.

( Candidates having degree other than above are not eligible )

Note : The admission requirements for M.Sc. Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Physiology, Pharmacology and M.Biotechnology is the same as mentioned above, but the requirements for (i) Perfusion Technology (ii) Nuclear Medicine Technology, will be as mentioned below :

(i) Perfusion Technology – B.Sc. with Biology ( Botany & or Zoology ) or B.Sc. in Perfusion Technology from a recognised University.

(ii) Reproductive Biology and Clinical Embryology – B.Sc degree in any of the discipline related to Biology or allied to Biology.

(iii) Nuclear Medicine Technology – B.Sc. degree courses in Nuclear Medicine from a recognised University.

or

B.Sc. degree with Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics from a recognised University. ( or )
B.Sc. in allied / related subject i.e. Radio Diagnosis / Radiotherapy from a recognised University. ( or )
B.Sc. in Life Sciences with Physics as a subject from recognised University.

2. M.Biotechnology :

Admission requirements are same like other M.Sc. Courses along with B.Tech ( Biotechnology ) which is also covered under eligibility criteria.

3. M.Sc. Nursing :

(i) B.Sc. ( Hons. ) Nursing / B.Sc. Nursing ( Post – Certificate ) / Post – Basic / B Sc. Nursing ( 4 years ) course from any recognised University, from an educational institution Recognised by the Indian Nursing Council, with 60% marks for Gen / OBC candidates ( 55% marks in case of SC / ST candidates ).

(ii) Registration as Nurse, RN, RM (Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife) with any State Nursing Council.

Note 1 : For Indian Nationals, 3% reservation for orthopaedic physically handicapped shall be provided on horizontal basis, in the seat available in M.Sc. Nursing courses. Eligibility criterion for candidates under this category are yet to be finalized by Nursing Council of India as amended from time – to – time.

Note 2 :

For M.Sc / M.Biotechnology and M.Sc. Nursing Courses :- Candidates who are due to appear at the qualifying examination, or have already appeared and are awaiting result, can also apply for admission. But such candidate must furnish :

  • Proof of passing the qualifying examination with requisite percentage of marks and subjects within 5 ( five ) days from the date of declaration of results of Entrance Examination failing which their performance at the Entrance Examination will not be considered.
  • All M.Sc. Nursing Candidate can submit certificate of Registration as a Nurse and Midwife from the Indian Nursing Council / State Nursing Council at the time of joining if they are selected.
  • All selected candidates for M.Sc. Nursing courses are required to furnish the proof of recognition of their college at the time of verification of their documents.

4 & 5. For B.Sc. ( Hons ) Nursing, Bachelor in Optometry & B.Sc. (H) Medical Technology in Radiography Courses :

A candidate is eligible to appear in Entrance Examination if he / she :

(i) Is an Indian citizen

(ii) Has attained or will attain the age of 17 (seventeen) years as on the 31st of December of the year of admission.

(iii) Has passed the 12th class under the 10+2 scheme/Senior School Certificate Examination or Intermediate Science or an equivalent examination from a recognised University / Board of any Indian State with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Candidates for B.Sc. ( Hons ) Nursing, Bachelor in Optometry & B.Sc. (H) Medical Technology in Radiography Courses should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with English, Physics, Chemistry and either Biology or Mathematics.

Note 1 :

1. For B.Sc. ( Hons. ) Nursing course, only female candidates are eligible. ( Common to AIIMS New Delhi & Six AIIMS like Institutions )

Note 2 :

  1. Candidates who are to appear in 12th class examination under 10+2 system or an equivalent examination in March / April 2016 and whose results are likely to be declared before 30th June, 2016 are also eligible to apply for B.Sc. ( Hons. ) Nursing Bachelor of Optometry and B.Sc.( Hons. ) Medical Technology in Radiography Courses.
  2. Candidates who are due to appear at the qualifying examination, or have already appeared and are awaiting result, can also apply for admission. But such candidates must furnish proof of passing the qualifying examination with requisite percentage of marks and subjects within 5 ( five ) working days from the date of declaration of results of Entrance Examination failing which their candidature will be cancelled.

(iv) Has a minimum aggregate marks required in qualifying examination i.e. 10+2 or equivalent :

For B.Sc. ( Hons. ) Nursing : 55% for Gen / OBC ( 50% in case of SCs / STs categories ) in aggregate in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

For Bachelor of Optometry / B.Sc. (Hons.) Medical Technology in Radiography Courses : 50% for Gen / OBC ( 45% in case of SCs / STs Categories ) in aggregate in English, Physics, Chemistry and either Biology OR Mathematics.

6. For B.Sc. Nursing ( Post – Basic )

The candidate must have :

  1. Passed 12th class under 10+2 system of education or an equivalent examination from a recognised Board / University. ( Those who have passed 10+1 on or before 1986 are also eligible. )
  2. Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery from any institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council.
  3. Registration as nurse, RN, RM ( registered nurse, registered midwife ) with any State Nursing Council.
  4. In case of male nurses, ( if passed before implementation of new integrated course in 2003 ), beside being registered as a nurse with the State Nursing Council, should have obtained a certificate in General Nursing and instead of Training in Midwifery, training in any subject out of following, for a period of six months: i) O.T. Techniques, ii) Ophthalmic Nursing, iii) Leprosy Nursing, iv) TB Nursing, v) Psychiatric Nursing, vi) Neurological and Neuro Surgical Nursing, vii) Community Health Nursing, viii) Cancer Nursing, ix) Orthopaedic Nursing.

AIIMS Nursing 2016 Exam Pattern

The scheme of AIIMS Entrance Examination for each course is as under :

i) B.Sc. ( Hons. ) Nursing ( Common to all AIIMS )

One paper of 2 hours duration and consisting of four parts containing objective type ( Multiple Choice ) Questions, with distribution of marks as under :

ii) Bachelor of Optometry / B.Sc. ( Hons. ) Medical Technology in Radiography courses

  1. One paper of 1½ hours duration and consisting of objective type ( Multiple Choice ) questions in four parts of 30 questions each in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. The candidate may either attempt biology part or Mathematics part.
  2. Based on the result of the Entrance Examination, separate merit lists will be prepared for the General, OBC, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories.

Note :

The allocation of disciplines will be on merit basis & by counseling. In each category the number of candidates called for counseling will be 8 times the number of seats. The order of counseling will be General / ST / SC / OBC. The counseling will be done strictly by combined merit list starting from Rank No.1. The candidates in order of merit will exercise their choice of subject according to availability of seats. In case of absentee, the next candidate in merit will be considered. When a reserved category candidate ( who is in combined merit list ) is called according to combined merit list, he / she will simultaneously be given an option to exercise his / her choice of subject both in unreserved category and his / her concerned reserved category.

If such a candidate opts for the subject which is available at that time of his / her counseling, both in unreserved category and reserved category, he / she will be given seats only from unreserved category as he / she is in merit and will be treated as unreserved candidate and will consume an unreserved seat. He/she will be given the reserved seats only when his / her choice of the subject is available in the reserved category only, not in unreserved category and then will consume a reserved seat. When all the seats of unreserved category are finished then only reserved category counseling will be done. Counseling will be held as per schedule given under ‘At a Glance’ on the inner side of the front cover of this Prospectus.

AIIMS Online Registration Submission of Application Form

A candidate seeking admission to the Entrance Examination is required to submit his / her application in the prescribed format available online with the Prospectus on www.aiimsexams.org. The cost of Application Form includes the fee for entrance examination which is non – refundable and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained. The candidate is required to go through the prospectus carefully and acquaint himself / herself with all requirements with regard to filling in of the online application form.

AIIMS Online Registration : After selecting the online registration, fill the details asked for, step by step and deposit the prescribed fees through Debit / Credit Card / Net Banking. Follow the Instructions scrupulously.

AIIMS BSc MSc M.Biotech Selection Procedure 2016

a) The examination will be held in Delhi, and in English language only.
b) The selection of candidates will be made on a 2 stage performance evaluation as under :

Stage I : AIIMS 2016 Written Test :

Candidate will appear for an entrance examination ( Written Test ) of 90 minutes duration consisting of one paper containing Candidate will appear for an entrance examination ( Written Test ) of 90 minutes duration consisting of one paper containing 70 objective type ( Multiple Choice ) questions in the subjects of fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing including Anatomy, Physiology & Pharmacology, Obstetrics Nursing and Midwifery, Paediatric Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing and Professional Trends in Nursing.

Stage II : AIIMS 2016 Personal Assessment / Interview :

On the basis of the merit list based on the marks secured in Stage – I, candidate three times the number of seats will be invited for Personal Assessment by a Selection Committee. If requisite number of SC or ST candidates are not available, then candidates belonging to SC and ST taken together will be invited. In case candidates belonging to SCs, STs & OBCs are not available for Personal Assessment, then the number of candidates from the General category will be proportionately increased Marks in Personal A ssessment will be awarded out of 30. The following factors will also be considered at the time to personal assessment :

  • Past academic attainment in the Higher Secondary or +2 or equivalent examination;
  • Past academic attainment in the Nursing examination;
  • Performance as a Staff Nurse.
AIIMS 2016 Admission will be made on the basis of the aggregate marks secured by candidates in Stage – I & Stage – II. In case of two or more candidates securing equal marks in all the 2 stages combined, their inter se merit will be determined in order of preference as under :
  • Candidates securing higher marks in Written Test ( Stage – I )
  • Candidates older in age to be preferred.

Important :

There will be negative marking for wrong answers in entrance examination for all the couses. Each correct response will get a score of +1 mark. Each incorrect response will get a score of – 1/3. No credit will be given for the question not answered. More than one response will be negatively marked. Zero mark will be given for questions not answered.
