2008 Engineering & Medical Counselling from July 3 onwards

Counselling for admissions to engineering and medical colleges has been advanced this year following early declaration of Plus 2 results, and will begin on July 3 and July 4.

Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy and Health Minister M R K Panneerselvam told reporters that counselling for engineering courses will be centralised at Anna varsity and at the Directorate of Medical Education for medical courses.

On the fee structure of engineering colleges, Ponmudy said it would be based on recommendations of the Balasubramaniam panel.

Engineering courses

Counselling will begin on July 3 with admissions under the sports quota and go on till August 31.

Counselling for other categories, including SC/ST, MBC, BC and OC, will start on July 11.

With the opening of more colleges, the number of seats has gone up to 1.3 lakh, of which about 85,000 will be filled through the single window system (SWS).

Ponmudy said all private colleges, barring minority ones, will have to surrender 65 per cent of seats for admissions under the SWS.

Candidates can buy and submit applications till May 31. The rank list will be announced on June 25.

Medical courses

Counselling will be held in two phases – from July 4 to 11 and from August 25 to 28.The sale of applications will begin on June 3 and end on June 17.
