Madurai: The Complaint Cell set up in Directorate of School Education in Chennai has received 53 complaints from students / parents in the last three days of its functioning against teachers and school managements.
Students from various districts began lodging complaints after the Government took an initiative to prevent teachers’ excesses against students on school campuses.
Chief Educational Officer of Madurai district R.Pandurangan told The Hindu on Wednesday that Government had asked the Education department officials in districts to write to schools about the cell.
V.Raja Rajeswari, Joint Director of School Education and the Monitoring Officer at the complaint cell, said parents and students had started approaching the cell with their grievances and 53 complaints were received in three days.
She said the complaints were about corporal punishment, teacher excess and about additional burden of the extra classes every day.
The joint Director said the cell would act immediately on receiving a complaint and CEOs of all districts would ensure that enquiry was conducted into the complaints.
The action taken in each case would be intimated to the Director of School Education, Ms. Rajeswari said.

Complaints made by students would be kept confidential in the interest of students, the Joint Director said. Complaints can be made either by phone or fax and the complaint cell in Chennai can be contacted on phone number: 044-28273591.
Only the parents and students can make the complaints and not the general public. Particulars of name, address, school, teachers involved and the incident must be mentioned in the written complaint. Complaints about elementary schools also can be made to the cell and the details will be immediately sent to the Elementary Education official for action.
