250 schools participate in Science Brilliance Test
Over 1,500 students from 250 schools participated in the state level Science Brilliance Test 2007 organised by Sona College of Technology (SCT) here on Saturday,.
The test was conducted with a view to instilling in students interest in science and technology, T.G.Sundaram of Venkatalakshmi MHSS, Coimbatore, won the first prize. SCT Vice-Chairman C.Valliappa gave Sundaram a certificate and cash prize of Rs.10, 000.
Three students won the second prize N. Manojkumar and P. Shanmugasundaram, both from MRR MAVMM MHSS, Madurai and R.Muthukumar of Sri Venketeswara MHSS, Thanjavur were awarded cash prize of Rs.8, 000 each.
Six students came third and were awarded cash prize of Rs.5, 000 each. They were: A.H. Sakthi Priya and P.Venkatalakshmi MHSS, Coimbatore, K.Bhuvana of Vivekanadha HSS, Namakkal, J. Arun of Rajendran MHSS, Erode, N.S.K.Umesh of Bala Bharathi MHSS, Salem and Arulmozhi Selvan of Sr. Venkateswara MHSS, Thanjavur. Ten student’s secured fourth place and each were awarded Rs.2, 000 each.
Veerapandi MLA A. Raja called upon colleges to adopt nearby villages and educate poor students.
Campus interviews
College secretary A. Dhirajilal asked students to be aware of emerging fields in the country and courses related to such fields offered in education institutions.
Chief Educational Officer S. Sethurama Varma, career consultant Jayaprakash A. Gandhi and college Principal P. Govindarajan also spoke.
About 250 final year students of the college who were placed in various companies through campus interviews were felicitated.
