Bannari Amman Institute of Technology launches PhD, MS Programmes
Coimbatore: The Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam, has launched MS (by research) and Ph.D. Programmes in seven disciplines from the year 2006-07. The programmes were designed with the aim of updating the quality of faculty members, said A.Shanmugam, its Principal.
“Though they were started as quality improvement programmes for the teachers, it is also open to industry people as well as engineers. Teachers from other colleges and universities can also apply for the courses and upgrade themselves”, he added, while addressing presspersons here on Monday.
Candidates with an engineering degree were eligible to do the MS (by research) programme and post-graduate engineers were eligible to take up the Ph.D. programme.
A total number of 50 faculty members had enrolled for the programme. “Most of the faculty is only graduates or post-graduates.”
The Institute, promoted by the Banari Amman Group, had some 30-odd Ph.D. holders in its total strength of 200 faculty members.
Research
It was expected that most of the other faculty would be come Ph.D, holders in the near future.
The institute, which had a number of MoU signed with many international colleges, universities and software companies, was spending Rs.4.5 crore in research work alone.
