Students joining the affiliated colleges of Bharathiar University in the next academic year can exercise the option of completing a course in one, two or three years.
They can walk out half-way with a diploma or complete the course to earn a degree.
To begin with, this option will be extended to three courses – Catering and Hotel Management, Catering and Hospitality Management and Fashion Technology.
The syllabus will be designed in such a way that the first year will cover the basics offered in a three-year course. The second year will deal with the subjects in a more advanced manner.
“The initial admission will be for a year. Students taking up a job after a year will be given a diploma in the subject. Those who wish to leave after two years will be given an advanced diploma.
The ones who complete three years will be given a B.Sc. Degree,” Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam told The Hindu on Friday. According to him, the purpose was two-fold.
One was to address the severe manpower shortage in the areas of Hospitality and Fashion Technology, the other, to enable more economically backward students take up higher education.
