Bharathiar University to start New Courses this year

The Bharathiar University (BU) is introducing 16 new degree and Diploma Courses this Academic Year.

Nine Post Graduate courses are M.Sc in Nano Science and Technology, Organic Chemistry, Animal Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Mathematics with Computer applications, Counselling and Applied Econometrics, MSW (Master of Social Work) and MA English with Computer applications.

The seven PG Diploma Courses are Diploma in Tamil for Mass Communication with DTP Application, Applied Health Science, Bioinformatics, Nanotechnology, Yoga, Entrepreneurship and Career Guidance.

According to Vice-Chancellor Prof G Thiruvasagam the courses in nanotechnology were being introduced keeping in mind the innovations taking place in this field in which billions of dollars were invested by countries.

"We are forming the new Department of Nanotechnology to offer the M.Sc and Diploma Courses in Nanotechnology he said during a press conference here recently.

He added that the application of nano science is broadly classified into the field of Medicine, Electronics, Bionanotechnology and fundamental material science.

Similarly, the animal biotechnology course has been introduced to equip the. students to face the revolution in modern biology.

Biotechnology, in general, plays a major role in contributing to industries like Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Health Care.

Regarding MA English with Computer Application, he said "The programme has been designed to impart employable skills at the same time concentrating on the perceptual and conceptual abilities.
