He said options are open to learn the subjects in both Tamil and English.
"A survey said that out of the several lakhs who register for the civil service examinations, only 30,000 prepare for the examinations. Also, only 3,000 are preparing seriously for the exam. Hence, it is not a big competition and students can easily compete," he said.
As the best IAS coaching centres are situated in Delhi and Chennai, economically poor students are a neglected lot and this coaching academy will help them compete with others with top-class training.
"Our faculty part will only be 25 percent, the rest will be the experts from outside," the V-C said.
The Civil Services Coaching Academy will train economically poor students.
As of now 80 students from SC/ST and Backward Class have been enrolled for the training.
Outstation students will get a stipend of Rs.1,500, whereas local students will get Rs.750. A library at a cost of Rs.2 lakh has been set up for the training. The training session would go on till May 15.
The training centre is funded by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
