Chennai: With a view to enhancing job opportunities for the students of Tamil Nadu, the State Government has decided to introduce a certificate course in Business English in all the Arts and Science Colleges.
A Memorandum of Understanding was singed on Tuesday between the Directorate of Collegiate Education of Tamil Nadu and the British Council, Chennai, in the presence of Minister for Higher Education K Ponmudy at the Secretariat.
The course is purely optional, an official release here said and added that in the context of multinational companies investing in Tamil Nadu, the introduction of such a course would open up new avenues for jobs for the youth of the State in multinational companies.
Dr S Mani, Director of Collegiate Education and Chris Gibson, First Secretary of British Council, Chennai, signed the MoU.
The aim of this agreement is to channelise the students to appear for the examination conducted by the Cambridge University, through the course, the press release added.
The course will enhance the job opportunities to the students of Tamil Nadu, as the certificate given by the Cambridge University is recognized by most of the multinational institutions.
The course will be taught after the college hours without affecting their regular studies and it will enable the students in expressing their views clearly in English. Besides, the English knowledge acquired through the course come in handy to the students during interviews for jobs.
