New Delhi: With Central Board of Secondary Education examination results for Class XII just a few days away, students are calling up counsellors to find out ways to secure admission to different colleges and which courses to apply for. While those who have taken their Class XII exams want to know all about the admission procedure, those awaiting their Class X results call up to know what kind of subject combination will suit them the best, say CBSE counsellors.

"There are more calls before the exams and fewer thereafter. Post-exams, children want to know how to apply for different courses run by various colleges. They want to know how they can get admission to good colleges. The ones who have written their Class X papers want to know what subjects they should take in the next class and whether they should change their schools in Class XI. Parents also call up to enquire the same," says counsellor Geetika Anand.

Agrees fellow counsellor Vinita Kaul, who says both parents and children call to know more about career options available after Class XII. "There are no stress or anxiety calls at this point. People just want to know about what to do next." Anxious calls from children about performance in the exams begin pouring in once the date of the results is announced add counselors. “There are different trends. Immediately after their exams, students call up to discuss how their paper was very tough and they could not attempt it according to their abilities. After some time there is a lull. Then as the time for the results approaches, they begin enquiring about the dates are announced that the children, parents and even relatives make calls to know if the students will fare well or not,” says Sarita Manuja, Principal of Apeejay Sheikh Sarai, who has been serving as a CBSE counselor for past four years.

With so much confusion over the date of the results, students are curious to know about the final date and are calling up to find out when the D-Day is, says Ms. Kaul. "Pressure will build on students some time early next week. About 48 hours before result day, anxiety builds up and calls begin pouring in On performance-related queries,” she said. Psychologist Naven Kumar says: “There can be too much of pressure on children at times. First, they themselves are uncertain about their performance and or battling their conflicts and on top of it the parents also show the same emotions. It just adds on to the worries of children and we speak to parents to calm them down.
