Chennai: Engineering students in Chennai and its suburbs have outdone their peers in other districts in the latest Anna University semester examination results.
Chennai colleges have taken the first six places in terms of the number of medals or top three ranks in almost all key branches.
St. Joseph’s Colleges of Engineering tops the list with 40 medals: Computer Science (3), Electronics and Communication (1) Electrical and Electronics (5), Electronics and Instrumentation (6), Instrumentation and control (5), Mechanical (2), Chemical (7) Biotech (4) and Information Technology (7).
College Director Babu Manohar said it got the first rank in ECE, Biotechnology and Information Technology. It was a tribute to the quality of students and inputs the college was able to provide them.
Valammal Engineering College Chairman M.V. Muthuramalingam and despite the institution’s policy of not “blindly giving full marks in practical examinations for any students,” its students had bagged 29 medals.
Sri Venkateswara College (26 medals), SRM (last batch-16), St. Peter’s (16), Sai Ram (16), follow in the number of medallists.
The seventh place has gone Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai (15 medals), and the next three places went to Jappiaar (13), SSN College (11) and Crescent (11), all in Kancheepuram district, but serving predominantly Chennai students.
