Coimbatore Anna University to tie-up's with IBM

Chennai: As part of its initiative to bridge the gap between academia and industry, Anna University of Coimbatore is planning to have an academic tie-up with IBM, said R Radhakrishnan, vice-chancellor of the university.

Speaking to reporters to announce an MoU signed by the university with Infospectrum India to train management students in SAP Business One software certification, on Wednesday, Radhakrishan, said that the details of the tie-up with IBM would be decided after meeting the company officials in USA. The vice-chancellor is expected to travel to USA soon.

The agreement was being chalked out as part of plans to outsource curriculum, he said and added that IBM would design industry-specific curriculum for Masters in Engineering (ME) and Masters in Technology (M Tech) courses. Such outsourcing would be symbiotic and expose students to the needs of the industry, he added.

The university was also planning to include Business English Certification (BEC) of Cambridge University to develop soft skills of engineering students, Radhakrishnan added.

MBA students would be trained in System Application Product (SAP) in Data Processing Business One software crucial to manage a Small and Medium Industry (SME), by Infospectrum, he said and added that the university would provide the infrastructure.

The university would also be opening a centre in Chennai and Trichy to train students in SAP Business One, he added.

"The course will be of 120 hours duration at Rs.25, 000 fee per student. This is a reasonable because industries spend Rs.3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh to train their fresh recruits in SAP Business One. When the course is completed students will be given SAP Business One Certification along with their degree. Students across the state irrespective of the universities they are affiliated with can join the course."

He also said that Anna University would be setting up a Research Park and a first of its kind Training Park under public-private partnership in two to three years. While the Training Park would provide specialised training for students in any technical stream, the Research Park would encourage students to carry out innovative research.
