New Delhi: The Congress high command is toying with the idea of setting up schools on the lines of “Saraswathi Sishu Mandirs” of the Sangh Parivar to create cadre base for a party.
The schools will be named Rajiv Gandhi concept schools. They will have ultra modern facilities and high-tech curricula. Of course, the history of the Congress party will be an important subject.
Admissions to these poorest of the poor belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes. They will also get free board and lodging.
Tenali MP V. Balashowry submitted the concept schools’ proposal to Congress president Sonia Gandhi recently. Sources said that Sonia asked Balashowry to prepare a detailed presentation on the schools for the senior leaders of the party.
According to the proposal, the schools would be run under the umbrella of the Congress. The schools, complete in every respect, should be set up in every state. Balashowry suggested that the party should start the schools in the Congress-ruled states.
This would help it spread its cherished ideals, ideology and tradition of sacrifice by the Gandhi family besides taking the party message to every nook and cranny of the country.
The MP hopes that people who get education and other help in these schools would be loyal to the Congress.
As the proposal, the party should provide 20 acres of land and other essential infrastructure to each concept school.
The schools will be set up in both urban and rural areas with an intake of 1000 students each. Going by the proposal, if every state has five such schools, nearly one-lakh students will have the opportunity to get admission to them.
It may be recalled that the Congress Satyagragha Committee had discussed another proposal recently for setting up primary schools in the tribal belts of the country to counter the Sangh ideology with Gandhian values.
However, Balashowry has made it clear that the concept schools are quite different from the tribal primary schools.
