Cusat Students resist combining of Departments
Students at the Lakeside campus of the Cochin University of Science and Technology have decided to step up their agitation against the move to merge the departments on the campus under the proposed Fisheries University.
P. Shyju, president of the Cochin University Research Scholars’ Association, said that the move to merge the departments under the Fisheries University will be suicidal.
He said that the lakeside campus of the university houses the departments including marine biology, atmospheric science, marine geology and geophysics, physical oceanography and chemical oceanography.
Mr. Shyju said that the institutions have earned appreciation as centres of excellence.
Various departments under the Centre and the State have been providing financial support for these departments.
The institutions have been working in tandem with the rest of the departments in the university, he said.
The association representatives alleged that a teacher on the campus was behind the move to merge the departments under the Fisheries University.
They said that the agitation against the move to merge the lakeside campus departments under the Fisheries University will be strengthened in the coming days.
