Edex 2007 – the National Higher Education and Careers Expo in Sri Lanka, organized by the Royal College Union, will be held on January 19, 20 and 21, 2007. at the BMICH International Exhibition Centre, Colombo. A secondary event will be held at Queen’s Hotel, Kandy, on January 23 and 24, 2007.
The vision behind the expo is to “to empower the Sri Lankan youth to be globally competitive”, says the project chairman Kamal Abeysinghe.
The expo would have four main pavilions featuring Domestic Education, International Education, Careers and a new ‘Commercial Vendor Pavilion’ introduced this year, offering the booksellers, computer vendors, e-learning service providers an opportunity to market their products.
It would offer diverse options in post-secondary graduate and postgraduate fields, available both domestically and overseas, enabling the visitors to make clear and informed decisions on upgrading their academic qualifications. The event is endorsed by Sri Lanka`s Presidential Secretariat, Education Ministry, Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training Ministry of Labour Relations and Foreign Emplacement. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has signed up as the Strategic Partner.
For overseas participants, Edex 2007 can be an ideal and cost-effective platform in Sri Lanka with a visitor profile of top-notch final-year students, post O and A level students in large number looking to chart out a career.
Universities and higher educational institutes from Singapore, the U.S. the United Kingdom, Australia, Russia, Japan, Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Malaysia are participating in the meet.
The Indian institutions would be targeting Sri Lankan students to make India the preferred destination for education. Representatives from the American Embassy, British Council, Canadian High Commission, Edu-France, and Royal Thai Embassy will be available to provide visitors with first-hand credible information on educational institutes and visa procedures.
For the Sri Lankan employers, it presents a cost-effective platform to make initial contact, interact and exchange information with prospective employees, Simultaneously, job-seekers will benefit greatly from the interviews during the fair, and seminars on generic and industry-focused topics.
