Pollachi: Stating that employment opportunities were abundant for the Engineering graduates, the All India Technical Education Council chairman Dr.Damaror Acharya on Sunday asked the students to prepared to work anywhere and under any circumstance.
Delivering the Fifth Graduation Day address at Dr.Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology, Dr.Acharya said: “The whole globe is actually your employment ground. When we passed out in early 1970s it was very difficult to get a job. Now the situation has completely changed. Today world is your market.”
Not only the western companies but also Indian companies, who were growing big and going globally, employing our youth in various countries, he said. But our degrees, skill sets and learning should globally acceptable. For this, the AICTE is trying to make some radical changes in the field of technical education. Through the country produces large number of engineers, the industry still cries for skilled manpower. He said only 40 per cent of our graduated having good employability skills.
Dr.Acharya said that there was a very strong correlation between technical education Institution and Industrial growth.
“We are admitting close to the million students a year in engineering and polytechnic colleges. Of this 70 per cent of the institutions and intake capacity are concerned in four States such Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. These States are extremely well in attracting investments,” he added.
N.Mahalingam, Chairman of the college, conferred the degree to the graduates who passed out in April / May 2006. M.Manickam, vice-chairman of the college, administered Graduation Day pledge.
A total of 377 candidates received their degrees. P.sharmiladevi and T.A. Saraswathi, who secured first and fourth rank respectively in Bharathiar University in M.Sc. (Software Engineering) were awarded a cash prize of Rs.5, 000 each. C.Geethanjali, B.Tech (IT) who secured 23rd rank in Anna University examinations was also awarded Rs.5, 000 prize and a gold medal.
