Ham Radio Club Opened at Sainik School

Coimbatore, Feb 11: Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu today inaugurated a ham radio club at the Sainik School of Amaravathinagar near Udumalpet.

The Minister also laid the foundation stone for the construction of six classrooms in the school, which is celebrating its 44th anniversary, under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan scheme.

As chief guest at the function, he accepted the salute of the ‘Tall Man March Past’ presented by the senior students of the school. He also witnessed their rock climbing, karate, gymnastics, para-sailing and mass drill. In his presidential address, he promised all possible help for the school’s development.

Capt. Alokesh Sen, principal (in charge) of the school, read out the school’s annual report Lt Col. Vir Singh headmaster, proposed a vote of thanks.

Chief Educational Officer Karmegam was among the dignitaries present. Registrar Sqn Ldr Sanjay Patel-istrar and senior teacher Santiago J Kumar, made arrangements for the celebrations.

Ham radio club secretary S.Vijayan said more than a lakh of rupees had been spent on the installation of HF / VHC equipment and antennae. He further said that only three Sainik schools including the one at Amaravathinagar have the ham radio club.

He gives training to 200 students of the school in operating Ham radio.

The Wireless Planning Cooperation Wing, New Delhi will issue centers to the students after holding an examination, Vijayan said.
