Palakkad: Health Minister P.M.Sreemathy said here on Saturday that a Medical University would be started in the State soon.
Inaugurating the 50th anniversary celebration of the first Government of Kerala, the Minister said a Corporation would be formed for the purchase and sale of medicines.
She said work on upgrading hospitals in the State was progressing. Vacancies of nurses in government hospitals had been filled.
The Minister said medical colleges in the State were being modernized. The benefit of modern technology will be made available to medical colleges and district hospitals.
As part of it, a C.T. Scan was provided to the Thrissur Medical College.
Minister for Electricity A.K.Balan presided over the meeting. Deputy Speaker Jose Baby was the chief guest.
M.Chandran, K.K. Divakaran (both MLAs) and Director of Health Service T.K. Kuttmani, among others, spoke.
Earlier, a seminar on ’50 years’ history of the health sector in Kerala’ was held as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.
Papers were presented by Jayaprakash, associate professor, Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, on ‘Health sector today;’ P.K. Jameela deputy director, Health Department, on 50-years service of Health Department;’ and Philip Augustin of Lakeshore Hospital on ‘Government and private sector cooperation in the health sector in Kerala.’
