NIT Goa to admit 90 Students Each Year
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Saturday said that the Goa Government is according top priority to the education sector.
Mr. Kamat was speaking after inaugurating the National Institute of Technology, Goa (NIT Goa).
The first among the 10 new NITs proposed to be established in the country was inaugurated at Farmagudi in Ponda taluk of south Goa.
The NIT Karnataka – Surathkal is the mentor institute for NIT Goa.
The Chief Minister said he has already urged Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal to accord permission for reservation of 50 per cent seats for Goans in the NIT, Goa.
The Ministry has allocated an annual in take of 90 students to NIT Goa comprising 30 students each in B.Tech program of computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, and electrical and electronics engineering.
The first batch of 77 students in 2010 – 11 will begin their studies at NIT Goa shortly, said Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivatsava.
Education Secretary M. Modassir, Director NIT Surathkal and Goa Sandeep Sancheti, and Principal of Goa Engineering College Vivek Kamat were among those present on the occasion.
