NIT-Tiruchi opts for Ph.D faculty
National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi, is only a couple of years away from increasing the composition of faculty with a Ph.D to 75 per cent from about 60 per cent at present Many factors have prompted the faculty without a Ph.D to take up research.
An increase in strength has provided sufficient time for teachers to concentrate on research.
Extension of the ‘flexible cadre system’ of IITs to NITs is motivating such faculty to complete their doctoral work under the Quality Improvement Programme, the NIT-T Director M. Chidambaram told Education Plus.
Also, in future appointments to faculty posts, the institute has decided to prioritise candidates with a doctorate.
