National Board of Accreditation Granted Three UG Courses

Salem: The National Board of Accreditation has granted accreditation to three undergraduate courses - Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Government College of Engineering recently.

Addressing reporter here on Monday, College Principal A. Ebenezer Jeyakumar said that the NBA team assessed the infrastructure facilities and the education standard in the college recently.

Based on the report of the team, the NBA had granted accreditation to three courses. “We have taken efforts to get accreditation for the remaining three undergraduate courses and five post graduate programmes. Another NBA team is expected visit the college in July to carry out the assessment process”, he said.

The Principal said that the College had planned to offer value added programmes to students.

The programmes would be conducted in association with companies such as Sun Microsystems, Oracle, IBM and Cisco systems.

Mr. Jeyakumar said that the College was establishing a modern language laboratory to develop the communication skills of students.

A sum of Rs. 18 lakh was allotted under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP). The College received Rs. 10.96 crore under the programme for improving the existing facilities and creating more infrastructure facilities, he added.

The college established a Campus Wide Network linking all the departments with the funds from TEQIP. This has enabled the students and faculty members to access the information quickly. “We are also establishing a digital library with the funds from State Government,” he said.

The college had signed memorandum of understanding with Southern Iron and Steel Company Limited, Mecheri and National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi to strengthen the research and development activities.

The college had registered a significant increase in the placement record in 2006-07. Out of 331 students, 315 got placements, which was 95.16 per cent, he said.
