1. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has been established under NCTE Act. 1993 (Act No. 73 of 1993) with a view to achieving planned and coordinated development of teacher education system throughout the country, the regulation and proper maintenance of norms and standards in the teacher education system and for matter connected therewith.
2. One of the functions assigned to NCTE is grant of recognition / permission to teacher training institutions for running various programmes. Regulations laying down the procedure for grant of recognition to various teacher training programmes were promulgated by the National Council for Teacher Education on January 13, 2006.
Now the revised Regulations called "The National Council for Teacher Education (Recognition, Norms & Procedure) Regulations, 2007 " alongwith norms for various teacher training courses have been notified and published on
10th December, 2007.
