Attention! Managements of Schools and Colleges (Private, Corporate, Aided and Government)

Applications in the prescribed format are invited from the managements of reputed schools and colleges for designating as the Regional Field Units of the National Testing Service (NTS), India.

The formation of the NTS, meant to cater to the testing requirements of the country, as prescribed by various commissions of education and subsequently envisaged in the NPE / POA / 1986, NPE RC 1990, and CABE 1992, has been initiated for the first time in India. The responsibility of implementing this virtual scheme, has been entrusted to the Centre for Testing Evaluation in view of its 2 decades of experience in producing basic reference materials and trained-manpower in various Indian languages.

As a step in this direction, 3 Task Groups, viz., Research & Development, Surgery & Documentation, and Consultancy & Training are being created by inducting 51 personnel (academic, technical, and ministerial), Initially 3 Indian languages, viz (Hindi, Tamil & Urdu) and subsequently all the 22 major Indian languages are proposed to be taken up for coverage. The immediate focus is on the two crucial levels of education (Standard XII and Degree) and subsequently on all the seven levels of general education. In order to have the NTS as a participatory movement on quality control, it is proposed to create 60 Regional Field Units across 15 States / Union Territories of the country and to associate about 6000 teachers of schools and colleges.

The objectives of the NTS:

  • To formulate concept based continuum of graded syllabi for the courses in Indian languages applicable to all the seven levels of general education.
  • To develop norms and standards for making use of them;
  • To create a centralized mechanism of quality control (common scale) for determining the language competence of any individual. The applications:
  • To maintain inter-language comparability across the courses in Indian languages at the national level
  • Intra language comparability at the regional levels;
  • To accredit the language courses as well as the institutions that are involved in imparting them;
  • To decide an individual’s aptitude / achievement / proficiency in the context of Native / Second / Foreign Language for the purpose of admission, certification, and employment; also
  • To facilitate delinking of degrees from jobs in due course.
